That ratio carafe is exactly like my Bonavita carafe that operates suspiciously similar. It’s terrible lol.

I have been using my Mocamaster for 4 years. It is very consistent. I use burr ground Lavassa coffee, and filtered water. It is made in Holland by people who care about quality. Simplicity means greater reliability. Of course for simplicity, nothing beats my Chemex.

Looking at this review and it seems like the behmor has the least plastic in contact with water / heat during brewing

As a very happy Ratio 6 owner I can say that he is not wrong about the some of the shortcomings he pointed out. The carafe does retain too much coffee but it can easily be emptied by removing the cap, It can make a bit of a mess but it is pretty manageable. The cap does retain some water but it can easily be shaken out. And there are more bits to work with than other machines. But the thing about the water flicking out from the silicone gasket has not been an issue for me. Maybe the lip was shortened a bit since this video was made, who knows. But my main concern is that the cap is such a good fit that you end up pushing on the thumb lever when you twist it on and this makes me concerned that it could fail. And I don't care about the inaccurate water level markings. So the cap is the main area where there are opportunities for improvement. IN SPITE of these shortcomings I still love it, I don't regret spending the money and it makes phenomenal coffee.

One reason I like the the Technivorm is that I can put any number of pour-over devices on the glass carafe. There's also a model that has two cycles for different batch sizes.

I have a Ratio. Generally very happy with it. Makes great coffee and looks good. Issues with floppy power cord that does not make good contact??? What is this the 1920’s. Difficult to load the water reservoir with the carafe without spilling water all over. The little floppy heat shield will sometimes not fully enter under the shower and will fill with water. Nothing major….just silly stuff that should have been cleaned up given the price of this machine. Does make good coffee.

We own the Technovorm Moccamaster (glass coffepot) - not the product you buy in a shop, but slightly tweaked by Douwe Egberts coffeeroaster (we live in the Netherlands, as you will have guessed). The heating element is slightly less powerful. But it makes wonderful coffee - although we only use it when we have visitors, when we have to brew a greater quantity.
For daily use we have a Gaggia Classic Pro espresso machine. We grind our coffee for both machines in a Sage Smartgrinder Pro.
The coffee we use is Illy's Regular brand. We like its smoothness, and use it in both machines, but with different grind settings, of course.
Maybe not the best machinery, but as I am a pensioner, we do not have the resources to buy the really good stuff. But that is not necessary either, because we like our coffee hugely.
Thank you for your tests, I learned a lot!

I've had so many different coffee makers over the years. Most of them were the standard automatic drip coffee makers that would end up in a land fill after the heating element wore out. Something changed and I'm not sure what but I started researching coffee, coffee grinders and coffee makers. And last week my new Moccamaster showed up and the KM5 grinder should arrive tomorrow. I was just tired of just drinking crap first thing in the morning just to get myself perked up (No pun intended but it works.)

Would love to see a video on some machines that use glass reservoirs and have minimal plastics. With all the PFAS stuff going on, surprised there are not more options for a drip coffee maker?

The reason why the markings are off in your Sage machine is because you don't use a filter, hence its volume is missing which makes you pour more water to fill the marks. It's written in the notice btw.

When pouring from the Technovorm turn the lid another 90 degrees and you will get a less messy pour. It's a bit unintuitable that the grip part of the lid should be sideways and it took me 10 years to figure that out.

James, if you are looking for video ideas, it would be very interesting to see a remake of this video in 2023. Even if the content and machines compared were largely the same. I am in the market for one of these, and always find your reviews particularly helpful!

Just my own thoughts on the OXO:

Makes a great cup of coffee, but the carafe SUCKS. Your first cup will be perfect temperature, but any afterwards will be lukewarm. If you don’t mind investing in a separate thermos, then this is a good brewer, but if you’re not trying to go through the extra trouble, I’d look for something else.

Just bought a Cuisinart brew central 14 cup… NIB for $58… 5 star rating…. Ya maybe not the best of the best but better than the $17 Mr. Coffee I’ve been using for the past 10 years. Some may think I’m cheap and low class… and they would be right…(I couldn’t be happier). 😜

Great video! I have the moccamaster, it's a fantastic machine. I also have a number of moka pots, french presses, pourovers, and yes, the dreaded percolator. As it's tied for my favorite way to make coffee, I would love to see you make a video on percolators. I fully expect you to bash them and not like the coffee they produce; I won't take offense. However the reason I think it would be interesting content is that it's a divisive topic amongst those who like coffee, and I believe there are many many more poorly designed percolators out there than good ones. You need to know what you're looking for to recognize a good one. In addition, I love dark roast and think that the percolator does well with this, while in most cases it will butcher the lighter roasts that seem to be in vogue nowadays. In any case, if you find some well built percs like farberware 12 cup, GSI glacier 6 cup, or the electric farberware 4 cup, I'd be interested to see your take on why they don't produce coffee that most people have a taste for, while still having die hard fans that are weirdos like me. Seeing how you would go about "fixing" a perc to operate to your tastes similar to the cheap drip machines video would be fascinating. Love your content man, have a good one!

I’ve owned my Behmor for 6 plus years, and it’s still working as expected. It was fondly nicknamed “Gort” (after the Robot in “The Day the Earth Stood Still.”)
My only caveat is the carafe not retaining heat very well. The solution if brewing a full pot is dumping the coffee in my trusty Nissan.

I'm just wondering that you didn't take care of the question which machine is best to allow for cleaning respectively letting to dry the water tank after brewing. From a hygienic perspective this question shouldn't be neglected.

I am trading up from an ancient Cuisinart ($99 current price) which started emitting smoke the other day. Other than that, it was doing an OK job once I got the grind right and used a separate carafe. I don't think I can justify a 3x price hike so the Oxo at 2x is going to be my choice, albeit I am vacillating between the 8 cup and the 9 cup. In other research, the Zojirushi is getting good reviews at a similar price point.

I'm on my third Wilfa within 16 months... First the plastic around the hotplate cracked. The second machine, the pump did not work from the time it was unpacked. The third machine has the pump broken after a short period. Was very happy with it. Super nice machine, and perfect with removable tank. But unfortunately I think I'll try something else now
