2022 Toyota Prado on/off-road review (inc. 0-100): The benchmark 7-seat SUV?

This car does not compete with the Pajero Sport, the Isuzu MUX, etc. Those compete with the Toyota Fortuner! This is a far bigger and more expensive vehicle. The others are all Ute turned SUV’s. The Prado competes with the Land Rover Discovery, Mitsubishi Pajero (not Sport), etc.

Frankly Prado's traction control is SHYTE.

Why the ridiculous swing out rear door! Someone parks to close you can't open it & you get no rain protection unlike a lift up.

I have a 120 3ltr Prado and happy to stick to the Toyota looking at buying the new one.

For that price and the space Toyota is 6 years behind. You only buy this just because it's Toyota otherwise I would have stopped the video. But thanks for the great info mate.

Very late to this party but I recently took a brand new VX on a 3000km punt in 2 weeks, suprisingly the car performed very well in suburbia being smooth, quiet and comfortable but was quite rough and harsh on gravel/rock filled roads which was completely opposite of what I expected.

The new ones have a button to electronically move the 3rd row seats.

Amazing, prado is so old school, hardly had much R&D done in the last few decades but sells like a MacDonald’s hamburger, it’s to cars what MacDonald’s is to food, fit for purpose I suppose lol.

Hi Paul, I just subscribed to your channel. It is a no fuss review of some of the common cars and SUV out there. I like how you reviewed the Prado and the MUX, and is still torn between the two models. I will be placing an order now so that I will get it in time for next year. Both SUVs have promising reviews but there is still a lot of uncertainty in the Prado (will it have the same feel as the current, etc). With this, what is your experience on each passing model of the Prado and MUX? Is it safe to assume the features and feel on this year's model be the same or slightly the same as each passing year? thanks

It's a shame they dropped the 4 litre V6 petrol. They need to put a decent diesel in them.

Way better mileage than we get but the GX only has a 4.6 liter v8 . Ours is faster. Probably more expensive too

Well, the grill looks better than our Lexus gx but still meh. Must have a trd aftermarket replacement for that grill. That’s my only complaint

Prado is such a good seller for a reason, just the best balance out there. Went through many cars and went back to the Prado eventually, even some of the new offering just didn't compare to the Prado.

With your performance test, beware of Toyota's odometer and speedometer errors. 100 KMH is more like 94 KMH. So their acceleration is slower than indicated, and their economy is worse than indicated. This is not unique to Toyota. You need to do a GPS check on the speedo on the freeway, and then re-calibrate.

Got it since 3 months and just love it

Love my 2010 Kakadu, it had done 165000 km snd still feels like new. Nothing has gone wrong with it. Bulletproof is the best way to describe my Prado. My mechanic, who also owns a Prado told me that when you work on them you can tell the difference over other cars. My car has the 4 litre petrol motor developed for Lexus, which will outlast 2 diesel motors. I would like some more modern technology but every time l look at replacing the Prado l am stuffed. I hate diesel and there is nothing else on the market that l would have the confidence in purchasing compared to my car which still has half a million kilometres left in it.

I have bought a brand new Prado here in the UAE. Trying to love it but the handling on the highway feels off. Best I can describe is it floats and bounces, like it’s just riding on the springs. Tire pressures are all good. Can anybody share if this is normal? I’m coming from a huge Chevy Silverado and so far the Prado handles/drives much worse!

Just had a 1000+ km journey from Sydney to threadbo with my Prado 2022 vx. Perfect drive. Solid and fuel-efficient for a long drive ( 7.9l/100km ( Diesel ) with cruise controller ) . I used to drive a Mazda cx-5 akera 2022 , and this is way better than the Mazda.

Paul- Just as an observation when you tried coming down that hill and how it almost took off on you, I am not sure if you did this, but normally when I am coming down such a hill I am in low range and then switch hill decent assist. The other thing I noticed was that seemingly useless little compartment under the radio, is normally are wireless phone storage centre. I noticed this by observing other Prado specs vids overseas. apparently this unit can be purchased and installed. Might be an idea to make that space useful. how's that Raptilian vehicle purchase going? :)

600 liters of space with the 3rd row down to 1800 liters of space with the 2nd row down? You're saying the space triples by laying down the 2nd row seats? That can't be right... right?
