Thanks for watching y’all - I love Denis Villeneuve so much I’ll probably end up doing a video on all of his movies at some point. We’ve already done Enemy and now Sicario - what should be next?

The CIA controls the drug cartels. They serve a purpose, which is to de- stabilize Mexico, allowing the US to run the show. At the same time, they fulfill a need to meet the massive drug demand this country has. Drugs and crime fuel police and public safety, gun policy, and so much more. Follow the trail and you will find who is behind it all.....your very own government!

revenge is such a powerful motive and i love it when movies dont try and pretend its noble whenever i think of this i think of James Bond’s Quantum Of Solace but Sicario is also an amazing example of letting revenge consume you and i truly believe when revenge is involved no one wins

The cartel took his family so naturally he sees anyone that’s involved with them, no matter how small a role they may have, as all equal in his mind.
Revenge has consumed him.

I'm wondering who are all of these people questioning whether or not Del Toro's character is a good person for destroying the sack that has killed so many innocent victims, as well as his wife and daughter.
If they do exist, then I wish nothing but horror for them. Their indifference to the victims of criminals and politicians is what makes a world like ours possible.

Good guys are made to bad guy things sometimes. Just like Marv and his killdozer. And good and bad is always up for interpretation but I feel like if I was him if it was a legit scenario that probably happens anyway. I would love to do what he did if the same thing or worse had happened to me. It’s only fair

This shows the brilliance of Benicio Del Toro. He can instill a character into the audience minds with his expressions and body language, minimal dialogue.

I will never understand why revenge is always demonized in our society. The thirst for revenge can keep people going who have suffered unimaginable trauma, people who have lost all hope. Revenge can give meaning to your life when all meaning of life has been taken from you. Revenge is a force of nature, when you seek revenge you become consequence, you become an instrument of a balancing force of the universe. It's true that revenge cannot give back what was taken from you, but it can help you come to terms with your loss.

Is it revenge or has it become justice and final judgement.
Evil knows only how to stop when it is annihilated.
Its survival is solely based on its dependence upon moral contemplation of mercy for humanities sake.
Something, Evil will never offer in return

There's a clip I watched not too long ago where Quentin Tarantino talked about some of the vague details of some of his characters... Aldo Rane's "noose burn", the real contents of Marcellus Wallace's case in Pulp Fiction, and his answer was essentially "less is more".

This video does great to underscore the differences between the original script, and the final cut. I truly believe this would have been a much lesser movie if we had all of Alejandro's trauma depicted as detailed in script.

I absolutely love this film and really felt the performances of all the talent involved in its creation. I never noticed until this video that Kate doesn't seem to have her finger on the trigger of her Glock when she is on the balcony pointing it at Alejandro. A small detail maybe, but also maybe to show that she never had any intention of actually shooting him, but wanted to display her anger and disagreement with his actions. I'm a fake gun fan as I do not own any firearms, but love their mechanics, history, and use in films. Both of the Sicario films kind of suffer from the "use cool looking guns not practical guns" trope that some movies have, that are otherwise extremely realistic and detailed throughout.

I interpreted the killing of the cop as a means for the film to convey just how cold of a killer Alejandro is and the killing scene served as a prelude to show what he was going to do on his revenge raid.

The nature of character is really fascinate, like he coming in the scene and you stop of to chew just to be completely involved in the plot. I believe there is not catarse because what we see is a man tainted whose past made a man OF violence, what does it imply in impetuosity and indifference of your actions - "there ins't enjoy, just remove the stones out of your boots and keep walking". However, in the last scene, in addition to remove a stone, he goes to the stream and washes his face after walk under sun. Amazing movie.
Not choose is a choice, i think. Tks for the video.

The thing that I didn't like about this movie was how little scene time the sicario has. I felt like I didn't know which character I'm supposed to be rooting for. I would totally be on board with the revenge plot being the main plot, instead of an artsy fartsy character dive of overcoming inner turmoil bullshit.

I think a big point about Alejandro is that he is someone who lost what good he had to live for when they took his daughter from him. He is a wolf and he would have been home raising his cubs if the animals had not killed her and released his wrath onto the world.

Fantastic summary. Definitely one of my favorite films over the last ten years. Didn't get the recognition it deserved. In some respects it reminded me of GONE BABY GONE. In particular, the questions on morality. Another film that asks its audience to make up its own mind about some of the decisions made at the end by the protagonist. And like Sicario, the whole film had this undercurrent of dread and uncertainty. However, Sicario is such a good example of the importance of craft. Denis is clearly one of the very best out there. Along with the cinematographer. Once they did the sequel, while it had some nice moments, it wasn't remotely close to what was achieved in the first film.
