Autonomous vehicles must obey all speed limits and only override during emergencies.

Waymo took 58 mins to travel 21 miles that’s just over 20mph. And cost $43. Tesla initial indications of Robo taxi pricing is $1 per mile which would be about $21 for this 26 minute trip. I think that Tesla will get to 50c per mile when in full scale. It will be why own a car

Waymo cannot drive on freeways after decades of development?

Waymo, let’s start with Hardware $50k of radar and sensors per car, plus Jaguar ipace $72k . That’s $130 minimum to start. Waymo have built about 1000 RoboTaxis . Tesla already has committed to production of RoboTaxis production without steering wheels from its yet to be built Giga Mexico factory. This will be a dedicated RoboTaxis built on a high volume production line, estimated by me, deliveries start in 2026 and will ramp up fast as Tesla will be using the low cost car platform that will already have been in production in Tesla Mexico and Berlin and I suspect Shanghai as well.
Exciting times ahead
There will be a place for Waymo if they don’t pull out from crippling costs

I love how the tesla fanboys complain that waymo cant drive anywhere and tesla can. I dont really think they realize FSD is $12,000 and waymo is 8 bucks per ride(for most san francisco trips) and in this case around 40 bucks. Not to mention the car which is around 38k, pretty bad for a car with such poor suspension and build quality

Sorry, but there is no evidence, that Tesla is running completely in FSD mode: @10min32sec you can see a hand on the steering wheel just before putting the car in the parking lot of the destination...

I don't understand how this competition makes sense. Tesla's FSD is level 2. You are responsible all the time and have to be alert and ready to take over basically instantly. Whereas waymos system is something between level 3 and 4.

Waymo is slow because it does not use freeways, and it's limited by driving only in mapped areas. On the other hand, Tesla created a hazard on the freeway by blocking the center lane and forcing traffic to pass on both sides of it.

Why is the Tesla on the freeway?!

Yes autonomous cars should be given a little leeway to go with the flow of traffic maybe 5 mph over speed limit

The Waymo is NOT completely autonomous, as I understand. The Waymo sometimes gets stuck in a tricky situation, and then it calls a human at a support center who decides how to proceed. In this sense, Waymo is not really more advanced than Tesla; it's just that the human Tesla driver is physically in the car, while the human Waymo driver provides the same support from a call-center. There is a problem with how Waymo picks up and drops off passengers; it often requires people to walk a long distance before or after the Waymo ride. I would not yet trust either Tesla or Waymo to drive without human supervision yet; I have seen videos of both Tesla and Waymo making serious mistakes that required human intervention, as of August 09, 2023.

To help compare the safety differences of Tesla and Waymo - its more that Waymo drive in a highly safe fishbowl subset in a town and never the highways that is not a real life situation as Tesla chose the freeway that took 50% only of the time it took Waymo. If Teslas also did that in safe low speed areas, then they would have ultra low accident rates also - it is not a bad reflection on Tesla.

FSD should absolutely increase speed to be consistent with traffic. Safety comes from understanding other people’s assumptions and expectations in certain environments. The speed limit sign is not saving my life, situational awareness will.

If Waymo is smart and want to stay in business, they should try to develop a general purpose autopilot like Tesla did as soon as possible. Adding lidar next to the cameras is certainly a plus for its vision. But their high maintenance an inflexible local-are-scan approach will take them out of business in a couple of years. Not scalable.

It would have also been cool to also see the screen where the Tesla shows what it is seeing and making decisions off of, but I know that wasn't exactly the focus of this video.
Great content, excellent production. Thank you!

No, Tesla should keep posted speed with a maximum added 10%. The Tesla should move over to the right if there is faster traffic on the right to make room on the left.

Tesla is the superior car and tech. Waymo needs all the possible sensors and be limited to the pre-mapped area only. Tesla tech is simple, cost efficient, accurante and scalable as it works everywhere. Besides Tesla just introduced Hardware 4.0 with better camera resolution if I recall Elon said the camera would be upgraded form current 1.8 Mega pixel to 5 Mega pixel.

The Tesla being passed on both sides on the highway is dangerous. Keep up with the flow of traffic.. and if that flow is faster than you want to go, keep right. Not acceptable to do neither of those things.

How does the pricing of Waymo work? If time is a portion of the price, it almost seems like the taxi drivers who take the long route to milk the fare.

Ignoring the freeway issue both cars drove very well. The take away for me is that the Telsa just went somewhere and drove, whereas the Waymo had to wait for the area to be mapped and have a spaceship on its roof.

People hear... What Tesla is accomplishing is totally on a different level than Waymo... Waymo is obviously a useful tool in big cities but is very limited... Tesla with Artificial Intelligence can be driven anywhere on any road, and as changes from construction is made... The Tesla wont miss a beat... But changes will totally lock up the Waymo car until the software engineers can change the program.. My prediction is that Tesla with make 1 trillion dollars on FSD and Waymo will still be losing money....
