This happened to me because I can't stand Strauss or his disgusting loan shark missions. One of the few times in the game where I genuinely felt like the bad guy.

The fact that even DUTCH doesn't like collecting debts speaks alot

this was funny to me because he approached me at night and he was in his sleep wear and night cap which made me hate him even more lol

I had Dutch come and tell me to go and help strauss with downes because i left it so long on my 2nd play through 😂

All the people hating on Strauss meanwhile he was one of the most morally sound members of the gang. Literally the only other ones who could compare to his innocence was the girls, Jack and the Reverend.

Love it when people try and give me moral lessons meanwhile we are playing a mass murdering bank robber...

with all the bad stuff that goes on in this group, the most evil one is Strauss.

I remember getting this for my second play through.

It's my first playthrough and I did all of the Chapter 2 missions except the Downes mission. Now, maybe it was sheer coincidence that I did it in such an order where I did the Mary mission without activating this cutscene while reading the letter. Safe to say is I'm one lucky cowboy exploring the world TB free!

If only Arthur paid Thomas's debt...

people need to sto psaying straus was a bad man.
he may seem slimy but that is merely because of the games propaganda.
loansharks are in the business of making money. so contrary to what the game says they didn't loan to people who couldn't afford to pay it back
they were also not violent like games and movies say they rarely used violence they had better means of getting money back.
they would do background checks on clients finding out where they worked, how long they worked their how much money tey made a month etc. and only give them the loan when all these questions were satisfieed.
they would make them sign a loan contract( that wasn't legal but was prooof of the loan) and if someone refused to pay the loan back they would threaten to go public with the loan since loansharks were not legal establishments anyone who got one from a loanshark would be shunned and may even get fired.
so 90% of people paid their loans back on time. they provided this service because regular banks couldn't give small loans because of government controlled interest rates being forced low.
in reality Straus would have been the one who brought in the most money.
logically speaking the gang wouldn't have needed to worry about money because he would have been able to provide plenty of funds

and then he proceeds to get infected with tuberculosis gj strauss

This right here, is why I have no sympathy for Strauss when he gets kicked out of camp/leaves. Arthur offers to go easy to get what they want but Strauss doesn't agree because he 'doesn't like him'.
While Ducth, Arthur, John, Bill and the rest aren't generally 'good men' but they normally target those who can at least fight back because that is where the most profit is. Strauss targets the poor and desperate to trap them and take what little they have left. The fact that Dutch allowed Strauss into the gang proves that his code was a lie from the start.

You can wear a full face mask before the cutscene that takes place when you meet Downes and the game will REMOVE IT from you because Rockstar values THEIR story instead of YOUR story. You are not Arthur Morgan.

I really wish that Strauss got TB instead of Arthur, you're telling me that out of all gang members you just had to send Arthur to do your dirty work 😢

This was me the first time i played i heard what happened and wanted to avoid it and then when Arthur automatically went to the downes home I was so upset

I got this cutscene on my second playthrough because I thought I could avoid Arthur getting TB ;( I also avoided rescuing micah until Dutch said something about it
