Why Season 5 and 6 of Peaky Blinders is so Depressing

I feel the problem with series 5 and 6 is that it was too big a shift.

We come from this high of finally beating Luca to an immediate change of camerawork, with a lot of anamorphic lens use, and seriously (at least for me) near nauseating colour correction and heavy ND filter use. There was colour correction before, but now half the scenes feel completely black, to the point where it actually starts to hurt my head to watch, and the other scenes just immediately feel like they shouldn't be that colour, even if it does serve the function of displaying the feeling of the series from now on, because those colours in those situations just don't occur in real life.

It had gone from the half dark, half fun gangster show to the typical BBC crime drama and it's filming style, and so it lost it's character.

If there was a slow introduction into the new show it became with series 5, it probably could have worked.

The character writing of Tommy Shelby in season 5 is next fucking level. What a fucking season of tv. Fuck, so good

Season 6 was depressing because it was poorly written

I think Grace's death was the turning point where the show turns dark and depressing. Tommy could never recover, even the actor Cillina Murphy said so, in the last interview on S6.

Tommy failed to kill Mosby because Finn talked family business to Billy. Billy snitched

Great video as always . But I have an idea .How about you make videos ranking PB seasons by their main features. Like which season has the most action, emotion, cinematography, etc.

The way I kind of see it is that the tone of season 5 and 6 was already set up in the ending to season 4.

Season 4 ended with Tommys war trauma returning, and his attempts to cope through that ghost from his past. But the question is: what caused that trauma to come back?

I think the answer is that he's now got no more enemies to redirect his own trauma towards. 'Killing' Alfie was the last potential threat to his empire, and so he now has no vessel to redirect his insecurities towards.

As he stands at the end of S4, he has no more external enemies - but he's now left to confront his internal trauma instead.

He got his whole family killed essentially I don’t think he is redeemed

What's the main reason of grace death,

I love Tommy and the Shelbys but in the End , they are still bad Guys and Tommy is the Main Villain in the Show. This is Reason, why PB getting more depressing.

The gangsters story is all in it's rise. When everything begins to fall apart - you see the same traits in the protagonists that the antagonists had.

Ruthlessness. Aggressive. Punishing. Threatening. Etc, etc.

After i complete the series, my opinion was that things should have ended at s4, s5 felt like making an unnecessary story with Mosley and just the seasons 5 and 6 were not as fun to watch as seasons 1-4
