I’m a year late, but I really wanted to share my thoughts on this game having just replayed it today. And I do mean I REplayed the game! I thought it was a car accident of a game! Look, I know three houses is coming out soon, but do NOT buy both just because you’re in love with FE like I am. Here are its biggest weaknesses.
- No multiplayer. Unless you’re on the switch, in which case you can do local only co-op play - not VS mode.
- every area starts to blend together. You’ll be looking at the map for half the game because nothing in the game stands out.
- no challenge. You’re just sorta hacking away at enemies that rarely fight back. I was in a horde and I set my controller down to make myself a sandwich. I came back and only half my health was gone. I was on the hardest difficulty.
- limited character select. 20 characters sounds like a lot. But what if I told you all these 20 were from just 3 games. Fates has a majority of the unlock characters, then awakening, then Shadow Dragon. You CAN get Lyn, Celica, and Anna, but no Ike, no Sacred Stones, no Thracia, no Hector, ironically nobody of the “warrior” class.
- bad combat. It’s clear that certain characters only really need one combo. Chrom and lucina for instance, only really need to do a light (x3) attack and then hit the heavy attack button, and you’ll do aether. OR you could hit the light attack button two more times and you’ll do a much better aether. This doesn’t allow for any exciting combat at all, and it’d have been cooler if it had a combo for shield breaking, a combo for hordes, a combo for trying to take down individuals, etc.
- wretched AI. Thank GOD you can order certain AI on where to go and what to do, because if you couldn’t then you wouldn’t be able to beat this game. I have no trouble with combat myself, but why in God’s name does Hinoka keep flying into a crowd of archers and keep waiting to die?
- story sucks. GameXplain JUST summed up the story and I’ve already forgotten half of it. It’s boring and has no drive.

In the end, the only good thing about this game is it lets Tharja and Camilla talk to each other about their forbidden love for robin and Corrin, except Tharja is locked behind a paywall. So why not just save yourself the $65 and google the conversations instead? There are all sorts of crazy possibilities in this game. Oh, except for Cordelia and Chrom. Let’s not get TOO crazy.

This game looks really silly. How is a 90 lb girl going to wield a battle-axe and kill eight armored soldiers in one swing? And then repeat this miracle 10,000 times?!

I just bought a switch a few weeks ago and I picke these game up on EBs "2 for sale", This game surprised me as I never cared or got the hype of the Fire Emblem games, Now I know this is a different play style but now it has me wanting to give 3 houses a try. The only thing I disagree with this review is slight on the Visuals. I love the Visuals in this game I am huge on Cel-shaded graphics as the hold up better than most over the years. I LOVED the visuals in this game.

I had a dragon quest warriors game for the ps4 played it here and there just couldn't really get into it much I've always loved fire emblem and this looks interesting should I get this or just go with three houses when I get my switch lol

My only issue was movesets. They're not all that amazing.

Wish Ike was in this one

In my case, I can't stand to play Hyrule Warriors since this came out. The strategy and multitasking makes the other feel tedious.
Going from one end of the map to the other and black again is such a chore, when here you deploy your troops much more efficiently.

I just got this game in the mail today. I can’t wait to dig into it!

I played this game for a while and I just can NOT get past chapter 13! Even on the easiest difficulty, I keep getting my butt kicked and I keep failing the missions because some of them are just too stress enducing. Like the missions where you have to keep certain characters from dying, which is the main reason I can't get past chapter 13!!
