This is really cool. I just wish you would have included the Convair 200 instead of the yak 141. The Convair 200 was already designed and its three bearing swivel nozzle engine was already prototyped before the yak 141. There’s actually a big debate whether the cancellation of the Convair 200 allowed soviet spies to get technical information about it or if the Yakovlev design bureau just used it as inspiration. Either way, the fact that everyone attributes Convair’s work to Yakovlev is a bit of a shame. I also wish there was some information about the way the lift fan clutch worked because some sort of magic must be used to interface with a running jet engine, but I would understand if that was still classified. Otherwise, great work and thanks for the video!

It's a pity that in real life it cannot take off vertically with a full armaments complement, unless its on a very limited flight time mission.

No wonder it costs so much and its maintenance expensive for so many systems that it has and for what Lockheed-Martin had to pay Yakovlev for the purchase of the STOVL system and the Swivel exhaust desings.

26 yeaar US Military Combat Pilot here.(US Army Blackhawks) driver. What I would have given to be trained up on this Aircraft.. This video was amazing.... My problem here is its no wonder the Chicoms military equipment looks identical to the USA's machines. What's wrong with Super Crypyto Stealth TOP SECRET? Pretty easy to see which parts of the VTOL system are liable to failure. Clutch, driveshaft assembly, and the bevel gear. I believe it was only last month one crashed while performing a hovering manoeuvre because the lift fan lost power. In the videos of this accident you can clearly see the aircraft nosedived with no warning. And I believe there's been others but not caught on film. Still impressive engineering though.

Replace pilot ejection seat with entire cabin glider to safely save pilot
