I consider Cat Steven’s shift of religious faith a normal incident in life. Such shifts occur among Christians and Moslems. The beauty of this song and its underlying inspiration is purely God’s, and can be Christian or Islamic or any other belief.

Beautiful song. I've loved it since I was 13 years old. I'm almost 65. However, the correct lyric is "fresh from the Word." At least that's what it is in the old hymn, and it's what it sounds like Yusuf sang when he recorded the song, but if this is the "official" Yusuk/Cat Stevens account, then did he sing it as "fresh from the world" rather than "fresh from the Word"? Whichever way he sang it, it remains one of my favorite songs of all time, and Cat Stevens shaped my view of the world around me when I was very young.

It gives the hymn a more Biblical sense when you replace "fresh from the world" with "fresh form the Word" i.e In the beginning was the Word. This was my first Cat Stevens' song I ever heard.

Really?! You might have some issues. Cat Stevens is my family and this is a highly personal set of lyrics about his experience with God and celebration of his marriage too. He wrote alllll the lyrics and music was his. I was there and distinctly recall. He's still a happy and joyful and Godly man. Please dont spread rumors or false information!
