Hello im am German und die nationale Volksarmee wurde 1964 gegründet und 1990 aufgelöst die Uniformen haben am Anfang den von 2 Weltkrieg geänelt die NVA war mit der udssr verbunden aber es gab noch die gst/Grenztruppen der DDR Grüße aus ostdeutschland

It's sad what west german army had became. It's like British Army's clone in all of their colonies. West Germany army a clone of US army. But those old german spiked helmet of WW1 were so cool. I love them. And SS uniform in WW2 were the most badass uniform ever. Even after 80 years

The East German army was basically the Wehrmacht with better weapons, was trained harder than any western military. It’s a good thing we never had to fight them and I say that as a ( then) west German.

Nazi Germany destroyed the whole German History and Uniforms for the eyes of the world. And what's worse for the Germans themselves they connect everything what has to do with German History or when you show a single flag with Nazi times. Thats really sad ngl.

Thanks for explanation of the M-56 helmet! I don't know much about military gear and the Volksarmee helmet always looked silly to me. (Doesn't appear to provide any neck protection.) But, your video explains some of its good points.

In the books I read the NVA deliberately used Prussian uniforms, the fact the prior uniforms were Wehrmacht was not the primary consideration, but that the uniforms were an evolution of Prussian tradition in general. Though East Germany didn’t want to look Soviet, they tried desperately to show the Soviets that they were oriented completely around the defense of the Soviet Union, and were highly proactive in winning their good graces as the most dependable Warsaw Pact force. For this reason the military terms and structure strongly echoed Soviet doctrine. During reunification, former NVA soldiers absorbed into the Bundeswehr were mocked as “soviet puppets” for using military language derived directly from Russian. In fact many NVA leaders were trained in Russian

About the NVA helmet, I have read somewhere that Hitler personally rejected it in 1944, saying something like "the German soldier needs to keep the helmet that made him famous". And this rejection was the reason that Russian "advisors" accepted the helmet for NVA.

Another Wehrmacht element: the NVA used MP44s, vast numbers of which they had (a fair number of these rifles ended up in Syria a few years ago, oddly enough) in the early days of its existence.

In case of doubt check a chilean parade as the most Prussian than German themselves

Not surprised they kept the old *Prussian kit the Country's in the Eastern bloc seem to them and still do seem to care about their history and culture more than the extremely liberalized west that cares more about money and inclusiveness

And they were especially good at shooting women and children trying to escape the socialist paradise.

I do not care how ballistically efficient that model m56 helmet is, its not a patch on looks and iconic style as the m35 etc. East Germany was 100% more German than the US of west Germany.

(Maybe there are some sorts of camos I may don't know).

I'm wondering about the "Egghead-shape" and most of the soldier had 'free ears' when wearing the helmet.
Mostly it looks, that they put them 'over' the head ...
