This van will drive so well when it's finished. Probably a stupid question but why did they fit the knife edge bearings? I would have thought a rod like the king pin would have worked and lasted a lot tlonger.
ОтветитьYou never know what has been changed, modified over the years of a vehicle's life. People just used what would work to keep it going on a shoe string budget. Great video- thank you.
ОтветитьHow different is the suspension on a 2CV chassis which also works so well and those Citroen engineers were brilliant
ОтветитьI recall back when I had my 2CV that people/garages would often change the whole hub as it was less labour whenever a wheel bearing, king pin or some such needed doing.
ОтветитьYou are correct about the tyre use on an AZU. I have an A and Az. All three of these cars used 400mm rims, not 15's. I'm currently restoring 8 400mm rims as the 15's on my AZ were fitted purely so it could be transported. It is not just the grease nipple that's the issue though. The dampers also foul the 15 inch rims so you have to use 125 r400 tyres on 400 rims to be able to use the original suspension. I'm told there were slightly smaller dampers that were also made, but of course, my collection only has the larger ones. So bigger rims it is... mind you, I think they better anyway..
ОтветитьNice ball busting Seppo , ball joints I mean 😁 although I bet does sometimes feels it’s the other type balls 😂👌🏻.
ОтветитьMaintenance of the mass damper is easy. Open the top screw and drain off the liquid (shit) inside. Then give the interior a gasoline rinse. Next, take 80 ml of hydraulic fluid from that red GTi CX and put it in there. Screw it in and go. Sometimes that mass gets stuck. I've found that turning the damper upside down overnight has helped. Don't hit the side.
ОтветитьThe AZU's certainly making you work hard in dealing with its' previous repair work, and the wheel sizes, yeah, earlier 2CVs used 400mm rims versus the later 380mm (or 15 Inch) rims, a very slight difference, but a bit of a pain if you got the wrong wheels for an older duck... :S
ОтветитьNice to see it coming together
