I have been at three different homes as a man in his sixties. I have no legs, so care should be adequate, however not so. Dauchau was better!

Don't expect a nursing home to be anything like a hospital. They are usually understaffed and some are good and others are terrible. It is difficult to find out how good they are. Many nursing homes put their money into the facility to attract customers. When the emergency bedside call button is pushed, it can take an hour before anyone responds. People can die during in that time. The government has rules that directly impact the amount of care or support that will help. When the time is up the government will abandon you or your ar on your own. "AMERICA HAS THE BEST HEALTH CARE" BULL SHIT!

Boy the government is in our pockets… do we own our money? Thieves Those nursing homes abuse and neglect their clients. Terrible situation.

If they create that kind of trust from age 70 to age 78 when they go to a nursing home , you say they can live all those years in between at their home?

Nursing home aka Health and Rehabilitation. From my experience, are horrible.

I worked for a home health care agency for 8 years, mostly in the clients' residences in Oregon. Here the state has a registry of independent home health aides, if the patients wish to hire their own staff (much better than just anyone from Craigslist!!). There are also group homes of up to 5 patients in private residences, which are also regulated by the State aging agency. Then there are commercial & charitable nursing homes at 3 levels -- independent living, some nursing care & locked wards for Alzheimer's & other mental states. Some nursing homes don't have all 3 levels, so the family has to move their seniors to another facility & start all over. Several states have an ombudsman program, but they can't be everywhere...

The expenses people don’t want to pay that deplete assets are medical expenses for the most part. Why do these same people hate universal health care paid through income tax when that legislation would resolve this problem? Since older folks don’t generate much income (usually) they would not be hit by the bill later in life. There is no good way to avoid it as an upright person - most ideas are considered criminal and civil fraud. Simply choosing not to pay for this care is an unreasonable expectation.

I just want to find out how to keep medicare and hospitals from taking everything. Unless I have a stroke and cannot make the choice, I'll be damned if I am going in a nursing home. I've lived alone my entire life since my children moved on with their life. I'll just take that one last extra long camping trip out West, have a great time and just not come back.

Hitting 65 this year, I already did a Ladybird deed to daughter on the house. Told daughter of medicaid lookback window. I think it's been 3-4 years ago now. So hopefully I don't lose the home to medicaid
