Could anyone explain me what exactly the difference is between using auto assign and not using it when configuring VOIP?
What's the different when connecting new ephones when auto assign is enabled opposed to when it's disabled?

During DHCP configuration of the phones, the router is supposed to get the MAC address of each phone. If this fails, you get an error saying to enter the MAC address.

The one required is the VLAN1 MAC you can see placing the mouse over the phone in the Topology.

Another option is to unplug the power on all phones. Plug only one, and wait for it to get the IP address from the router. When the phone register, you should be able to ping the IP of the phone.

I cant get this lab to work no matter how hard i try. Ive redone this lab 3 times and I do everything you do exactly and i cant get the phones working. The only thing i do different is i put a mac address on the phones because it says i need to use a mac address to use the button command

This is really helpful, but just one problem. I keep getting 'need to configure MAC-address or VM station ID' when entering the command button 1:1, so I cannot actually assign dn s to phones it is driving me up the wall! Can anyone help?

As to the mac address error message, couldn't you just place your mouse pointer over the phone you're configuring and get the mac address from the vlan 20 line in the list? Or is that not the mac address of the phone?

shit the bed on the MAC address assigning issues. None of the fixes provided do much of anything even manually assigning the MAC. Phones stay on "Configuring IP" no matter what I do. Just to be sure I built the environment exactly like yours and nothing :(

I have a question. How does the router or a dhcp server know which scope to handout to the dhcp requester. I mean the port had voice vlan and data vlan so initially when the phone boots ups its not tagging any packet so why doesnt the pc get ip from voice vlan scope and the phone from data scope?

Please can someone just help me with the switch and router configuration commands
