This Krav Maga instructor exemplifies "Occam's Theorem", that is, often the most effective solution to a difficult problem is the simplest approach. Americans say, "Keep It Simple, Stupid", or, KISS. This is classical, original Krav Maga as it had been designed and intended. Photos of Krav Maga instruction in the early Israeli militia people's army didn't even show gyms. The photos showed ordinary, everyday people in civilian clothing standing on a grass surface or sand pit practicing these simple, straightforward, emergency self-defense responses. None of them looked like body builders or muscle men. They just needed simple yet effective, fundamental personal defense against sudden, unprovoked physical attack.
This approach exemplified 'Defendu', which operated off the same, keep it simple and aggressive counter attacks of the later Krav Maga. Defendu, invented around 1928 in dangerous Shanghai, China by Assistant Police Commissioner, William E. Fairbairn, integrated core Japanese Jujutsu with western boxing, some wrestling, and French Savate. The doctrine was the same as later Krav Maga. The best defense against sudden, vicious, aggressive physical assault is an immediate counter attack that is simple and straightforward; no fancy preparatory moves or setups. The victim doesn't have time for that in the middle of a violent assault. Hence, there are virtually no blocks. The attacker got the first move or first strike on you. You had to immediately counter with a strike of your own. The whole concept revolved around ending the fight as quickly as possible and if necessary, getting the hell out of there as fast as possible.

great video! guys like Paul VuNak drive me nuts because he'd try to teach you 50,000 moves to pull to basically slap your way out of this--so i get the instructor's fustration. You've got seconds to act and your opponent did you a favor by taking his hands out of the battle and getting his face/ribs/groin right in striking range.

Yeah, pretty close to the CQB stuff we did. The shoulder roll to get off the line of attack... might as well throw in a hard slap to the side of the head since it's all part of the same motion anyway.

YES! 👏 I just taught a Self Defense seminar also detailing how easy simple striking is during some attempted choke like this. Whenever anyone grabs you or chokes you their hands are Not free to defend themselves. Simplicity is beautiful
