Best Laptops for Architecture in 2021

Unfortunatelly those recommendations are already very dated. Intel 12/13th gen is the best choice, AMD 5/6th gen is the budget option. Gaming laptops are not that bad either.

Now adays workstation gpus are the same as gaming gpu, also gaming gpus get studio driver. workstation gpus are slowly clocked gaming gpu with more vram. instead of buying a 3060 level workstation gpu you can go for 3080 gaming laptop for the same money, which is twice faster.

When you buy a gaming laptop, you buy an entire station for multimedia gaming and work. When you buy a workstation, you're buying a hadron collider that's super powerful and cool, but it's only made for one work. It has a processor with a LOT of cores (which are far from always needed), and a video card that is only good in narrow scenarios. Look at the tests, many programs do not use its full power.

I have a Dell Precision 5540 that I got from work. It has a Core i7 9850H.
My partner has an Acer Helios Predator 300 (2019) with a Core i7 9750H.

The sustained CPU speed in her laptop is better then in mine. I tried, for example, Handbrake encoding and there was a noticeable difference. The Precision chasis looks great but the cooling system is just not good - obviously a compromise that has been made for the machine to be "sleek".

The Quadro gpu in the precision may be an advantage for very specific tasks for if not, I do not see why would the "Workstation" laptop would be better. Workstations nowadays are a joke.

I wish I saw your video earlier, I bought an Alienware M15 R4 gaming laptop and It can’t get the job done especially when usage Lumion or ENSCAPE even though it has a NVIDIA RTX 3070 8G. Several crashes now it won’t start up. I am waiting on the technician to fix it.

Has anyone tried the Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio? If so, which graphics card to choose: the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 or NVIDIA RTX A2000 (much costlier option)? It would be for my daughter who is an architecture student. Also, how useful is it to have a laptop with a touchscreen for an architecture student? Not sure if this would be used much and worth it. Got myself a gaming laptop for that kind of stuff portability was a must so I couldn't avoid and for the 3.5K budget a quadro on a laptop was bad comparing to mine so my laptop s specs are the following
R9 5900HX (8 core iverclocked @4.6GHz)
2x 32GB @ 3200MHz (64GB Total)
RTX 3080 16GB @138W

Works pretty well with a rhino file of 3007MB

It is true, but those laptop's look horrible, I personally combine my laptop and my PC, in my PC I complete my renders with Twinmotion, Solibri Studies, and 3DS Max, but I use my laptop for presentations and mobile working.

How about Dell XPS 15? Do you recommend it or the precision workstation is a better choice?

Is there any updated advice for 2022? Is the Nvidia T1200 graphics card now preferable to the Nvidia Quadro 2000, since it's the refreshed model? Does anyone have personal advice narrowing this down between Lenovo and Dell? Who in his right mind would do cad with laptop anyway?? It's totally dumb. You should at least have a 24 inch so basically have a monitor/tv. You buy ultra book for conference and build a setup for work. Simple solution. Or else you buy a middle end laptop +egpu and a monitor.
