It really is very impressive, certainly does a great job incredibly easily. Much less work than a round trip to RX. Certainly in some cases you will still need RX, but for 'routine' dialog clean up this is plenty good enough. Can't beat 'for free' either! Wind noise is exceptionally challenging. Best avoided in the first place , of course. There are a couple of specialist plugins, and RX advanced...but at a substantial cost and even they have their limits. Great review. Thanks.

That was bloody fantastic. Now just move it to Premiere/Audition so I can use it!

Btw I’m interested in a MixAssist / Auto-Mix / De-bleed solution for Audition. Ideally I would just ask it to fix the mix/de-bleed automatically, or somehow select which voice should be collected from which track. I did note there is some external de-bleed tools you can purchase but that seems like an ineffective workflow compared to doing it in the app.

Language/wording question; “discontinuous” noises is the same as we refer to as “transient” in signal processing courses, or am I missing some finer point of the English/American language? Or is transient a too technical word for effective communication (people won’t understand)? Not my native language :)

Awesome video Curtis! I think the voice isolate adds tremendous value to FCPX now and makes it more competitive.

It is really incredible for voice isolation/noise reduction. I've found it lacking with anything but very light wind noise and forget about any music content. For what it is - and the fact it's included for $299 as part of FCP - it's incredible. All relative. Great video as always Curtis.

Thanks Curtis, just wondering as a newbie to audio only (audiobook voiceover), what max software would you use for editing?

Thanks Curtis, I've been using CrumplePop, but I will give this a go and see which is better.

Wow! That is an incredible tool for FCPX that I didn't even know about. Would definitely help streamline my workflow. Thank you!

This update was well timed! I had been using Izotope’s RX-8 denoise on my dialogue for a long time, but isotope stopped supporting it in Final Cut Pro. I was weighing spending the $1000+ on new software, but the FCP voice isolation does a great job. Depending on the type of audio, I typically use it in the 20-30% range.

Thanks for the comparison... As a novice audio editor and a one man band, I like the feature a lot. Although I hate my the sound of my voice when I go over 35%

Never though about the reverb stuff. Vast majority of my stuff doesn't have any extreme reverb, but there is a little bit in the space I use. I think I need to experiment a bit in general just to avoid sending audio to RX 9 first. I only have Standard, so I don't have voice isolate. I use it more to clean things up and do some EQ while I'm there anyway. Though the Music Rebalance is kind of a poor man's voice isolate.

Meanwhile, Adobe has only JUST announced that they will be adding bins/folders to Audition in a forthcoming update.

A HUGE thank you sir. I was literally editing in FCPX and was trying to remove the generator noise that was used for the live speech.

Big improvement compared to my efforts 🔥

Fantastic. I could really use a starter video on working with Audition and Premiere together. Sad to say that I don't know enough to ask the appropriate questions. Which is to say I don't know what I don't know.

Are there other products that do reverb reduction this well or better? This reverb reduction seemed as good or better than the alternatives I'm familiar with so I'm curious if I'm just not familiar with what's current. Overall, this seems surprisingly good particularly for a "one slider" tool.

It's pretty amazing. Thanks for the demo, Curtis. Greatly enjoy your shows. I've been working on a project that involves transcribing ancient cassette recordings from the 1970s through the '90s. I cleaned up the dialogue as best I could with RX7, Nectar, Ozone, and Audition, and the Final Cut Voice Isolation did a very nice job of taking it a step further in clarity. Now I just need to figure out how to edit audio in FCP without a video track - it throws up a "missing media" message; don't know if I'm doing something wrong, I'm obviously not an expert in FCP.

This summer I was on a commercial job recording in a manufacturing facility with big, noisy equipment. The kind of place where ear protection is required. I was filming craftsmen doing their work. It was so noisy I did not bother to mic them.

But I got some wonderful comments from one worker on my camera-mounted shotgun (the one Curtis recommended to me personally, thanks!). To my surprise, in FCP, I was able to isolate his voice to the point where it was perfectly usable in the final production. Voice Isolation helps me do better work, faster. I do have some other plugins to reduce noise, but don't use them much anymore.
