How to fix VLC freeze during HD playing

writing this in case it helps others: i've had the same issue and the only thing that worked was to downgrade to vlc 3.0.0 (i had 3.0.16 - latest version at the time). changing the video output method or increasing the value of the file caching did not do the trick for me
