I have never let a dog lick me, but I have been bitten about 5 times by different dogs in my life but never had any infection. But a guy I went to school with back in the late 70s barefooted stepped on a fishhook in flood water died from an infection!

In Islam our prophet told us if a dog drinks from a bowl or licks it, throw what ever is in it. Then wash it once with dirt(sand, or soil) then seven times with water. Ahead of his time
