If an expectant mother has trauma surrounding pelvic exams what tests would be performed to alleviate some of that anxiety? I am planning to get pregnant in March, and I have really severe anxiety around pelvic exams from my last pregnancy and was just wondering what and OBGYN would do in that kind of scenario

For me, that my Dr. broke my water every time I gave birth(7 times), the only reference I have is when the water breaks, my contractions get more painful.

I always start to lose amniotic fluid early. This is my third pregnancy, any recommendations on this issue

When I was pregnant with my son, my water began leaking. It was 3 days before my due date. I was having steady contractions, holding at 3 min apart. I went to the hospital and they didn't do any of those things. I was told that I'd know when my water breaks because it would gush. It wasn't urine. They said it was and sent me home. I came back everyday for 6 days before they admitted me. My son and I almost died. My midwife later confirmed that I had been steady leaking amniotic fluid the whole time. There was never any gushing of fluid. It was awful, but we made it out ok.

I went into labor 6 weeks early. The first thing I noticed was mild contractions with a sudden gush of fluid. I called L & D. They told me it was far too early for labor and insisted it was pee. I insisted it was in no way pee. Finally, grudgingly, the L & D nurse said, "Well, I suppose you'd better come in." Between my husband being at work and feeling so unwelcome at the hospital, I made the poor decision to wait for my husband to get home. 6 hours of labor later, after a gush of fluid at each contraction, I finally went in. By then, it was too late to stop labor, and I had my girl 6 weeks early. She was due Oct. 31, and I had her Sept 15. She was very small but altogether healthy, and I was able to take her home once she got to 5 lbs. She was and is a great joy in my life. However, I still remember the impatience & skepticism of the L&D nurse when I called for advice & help. I remember feeling I was being a bother. I was afraid because I was alone. I knew my baby was early, and I'd been refused any reassurance or advice because the nurse refused to believe me.

My water never broke it leaked, my obgyn didn't even know she thought I needed more fluids and when I went into labor and I went to the hospital the nurse lady got smart with me saying you mean to tell me you didn't know your water was leaking I told her no I didn't I don't have 2 kids to know this is my first child

From own experience, it is hard to miss this. My water broke at night time both times. I had water running down my legs and unable to pinch off like when you realize you’re peeing..needed to towel off both times.

My water didn't break until I was pushing and even then it didn't break, my doctor actually popped the sac for me. It happened so fast! 5 hour hospital labor, pushed for 5 minutes. Worst. Tear. Ever.

It’s even more beautiful to know that’s what keeps a baby healthy and protected in utero. ❤

You’re a great source of information I’m 60 and this fascinated my fiancé as well. You definitely have the temperament of a great on/gyn.

We’ve heard of amniotic fluid being used in the hair. Are there any other uses? Happy Thanksgiving 🍁🦃🍽

I had Polyhydramnios with my son so when my water broke I was just like constantly streaming fluid. I went to the hospital and they were like "ok let's see if your water REALLY broke" and I stood up from the wheelchair and there was just a puddle in the seat. They were like "yep, ok cool lets get you prepped"!

When mine was slowly leak and they just put this weird paper table thing in to check for whatever they do to confirm that it's actually your water breaking. So it's literally a piece of paper thing that can determine whether or not it was your water

Is amniotic fluid the only thing that shows up "ferny" under the microscope? How do you get this amniotic fluid? Inserting something in there to get some? I don't understand how that would tell you her water broke because you're getting it from the source, not from something outside the source.

I feel like we’re pretty aware of our bodies during pregnancy so don’t always need a “medical professional” to tell us what’s what. With all 4 of my pregnancies I could feel my water break! My 4th I was lying in bed and it woke me up! There was no pressure on my bladder so I absolutely knew it was my water breaking.

With my daughter I was in full labor and fully dilated when the midwife (who was amazing) broke my water. With my son though I had been at the hospital for about 2 hours having inconsistent contractions, dilated to 5 1/2, with no change the whole time. They gave me fluids and everything and finally were gonna send me home for comfort until my contractions had gotten more consistent. Well just as I was texting my husband (whom had left to get things from the house) not to come back I felt a hard kick/popping sensation and some fluid come out. Called the doctor in to see if it was pee or what and she had me lay back and do the cough thing. I did not go home that night!

I have always been induced for pregnancies except my 3rd and i was walking to the restroom and i just felt like of a water balloon popped in between my legs . We took off to the hospital and the nurse asked me how do you know it broke. i said "i dont know i just feel water run down both legs, and she looked at me and said," How do you not know what it was? " Right when she said that, the doctor came in, and i told her she is asking me how do i not know, like ive been induced twice with epidural already running before they popped it. The nurse then looked away like this girl just ratted me out. I think about it today and i guess i still have a grudge .
