i'd make it so you simulate vr experience in this type of no-vr mods instead of just making it look like run&gun from HL1 and 2. I think it has to be a 'simulated' experience so you can at least get an idea of what it would look like with VR headset
At least that's what would get me try a no-vr mod. If not like this, then I rather wait till I can drop a lot of money into a decent vr kit

Can you play this with a vr headset?

I tried the no vr mod way back and it didn't function correctly. I eventually said fuck it and bought a ocul- I mean meta quest 2 when it was still oculus and played it. I also finally got to play VR chat the intended way. I also got h3 which is the ultimate firearms sim and beat saber which I'm dogshit at. Except hla I bought the VR games for 15 min of novelty but if there's a really good VR game I'd like to see it. I thought I deleted the VR mod afterwards but it was still there and caused VR to be unplayable but after that blunder I finally got to play all the hot shit everyone was talking about for a few months when they came out. Of course the VR craze was short lived.

Ngl more VR games need non-vr mods or official non-vr releases,cuz decent VR headsets are expensive af nowadays and i doubt that there's enough games to justify the price of 530+ dollars.

HL Alyx without VR would be a terrible way to experience it. I would like to see some mod levels designed around no VR though.

I've been doing some QA for this project initially, while it is a different experience than playing it in VR, I do think it's a good enough experience for anyone who loves Half-Life but can't play in VR (whether it's due to cost or motion sickness).

Anyone who has the means to should play this game in VR, it will change your entire expectation of what games as a medium can do, it's a mind blowing experience.

I'm really looking forward to this, I have a VR headset but because of various issues e.g. motion sickness, lack of room, etc. I haven't gotten round to completing HL:A yet.

I also like to be able to mess around with things via the console.

I'd like to see a proper swing and grab animation on the left hand for using the gravity gloves, that would make the whole thing feel a lot more polished.

Its neat that this mod exists, the developers seemed like they did a good job. If you have a VR headset, then VR is obviously the way to play this game, as everything in the game was designed with VR in mind. But this is nice for people who can't afford a VR headset or can't do VR for whatever reason (motion sickness, etc). What is going to frustrate me however, is that people who haven't tried VR and don't understand what its about are going to play this mod, not acknowledging what a non-VR mod for a VR game that was designed to fully utilize VR means, treating it as if this was a non-VR game that was designed exactly like this, and judging it based on that.

Well thank fuck, Valve should have made this a mode since day 1, the MFs.. now I just have to decide if I want to give Valve any of my money to even play it with the mod. My opinion of Valve has gone way WAY down in the last few years and Alex was a big reason.

Funny this video came out today since I've been playing this game like this for a few days now.
It's definitely got its fair share of quirks. I'm stuck with some non-functional keybinds, ocassionally dying to weird shit like headcrabs jumping on my face and me being unable to take them off, the game being locked at a strict 60fps introducing input lag, and the combat overall being a cakewalk, but it's definitely all on me for not playing it the indended way. Then again VR is still very much niche and stupid expensive where I live, so unless someone is willing to ship me one from overseas, it's a no-go sadly.

Hello, I've installed the mod and it works great so far! Just one small issue, I am an achievement hunter and really wanted to 100% Alyx like I have the other Half-Lifes. But using this mod makes some achievements impossible. (Like for example the loot a corpse achievement.) Does anyone have any tips or alternatives for how I could unlock those without owning a VR? Thanks in advance!

I've looked at countles VR headsets but none of them fit my needs. The Valve Index was the one that has everything I've wanted from a headset but its not available in my country. Im waiting 3+ years now. I cant wait any longer, Im gona get this mod.

I am seriously glad that this exists because I have been wanting to play this game and experience the story for ages. VR headset is out of the question for me unfortunately, for where I live and the inflated price. Maybe later down the line I will pick up a quest headset, but for now, I just want to experience the story.
