Correction, not created by Google (search GSMA). Like USBC it's a standard that's been around for some time. It's simply Apple dragging it's heals clinging on A.S.S Apple Stockholm Syndrome to retain it's customers

“Apple will let users share locations in text threads and RCS messages will be green, like SMS messages are now, *the company confirmed to 9to5Mac.*”

This is an absolute massive massive win for me as an Android user. And it also keeps me from ever deciding to move to iPhone because of iMessage. If I move over to iPhone ever it will be because the phone is a really good phone, not because of a stupid messaging service. But this basically keeps me in the google pixel field. This is a huge win for me. I can't overstate it. Every single one of my family members has an iPhone and almost every single one of my friends has an iPhone. Obviously for them if they communicate with very limited people like me that have Android, it's not a massive win for them. On the flip side for me, I have tons of tons of people that this increases the quality of my pictures, the quality of group messages, and an actual usable video that I can send. This is a massive massive win for somebody like me. Obviously I'll still have WhatsApp for friends around the world that I have and obviously I'll still have Line for my Asian friends. But I can't overstate this at all. This is a massive win for me as an Android user. I can just send a text to family with a picture on my travels or a video and they're going to get a high quality version.

you already know in the apple typical fashion way they are going to try adding rcs but they are going to do something to still make it seem like iPhone is superior

No need for an iphone anymore. Android phones provide a large range of options....foldable, flip, better camera, pen support, fast charging, reverse charging, etc. The biggest thing for iMessage is the sending poor quality photographs & videos, breaking group chats. If thats not a thing anymore why get ripped off for a subpar iphone and i have a 15pro max and S23 Ultra.

They should just connect it to jibe. They coukd roll it out in a week. No apple wants to be difficult lol. Jibe is end to end encryption even in group chats. Call it a day

Idc the color of the bubbles can stay whatever color it is. I just care about being able to finally text. Nothing pisses me off more than low quality pics/videos. If bubble color matters to you please reevaluate your life lol.

Has anyone noticed that when people try to text you from an android phone you can’t get text messages from them? My wife had to turn her RCS off but what happens if people don’t know to do that I’m probably getting messages from android users that I don’t even know about or will never know about. Is there a solution to this I just switch from android to Apple.

They should have done this so long ago. The fact that people still need to worry about SMS/MMS in 2023 just because one company is holding out is insane.

As an Apple devotee, I’m happy that they are supporting RSC. I look forward to seeing actual names in iMessages, and not the endless phone numbers that mean nothing to me, even if the message is from a friend with a Samsung phone.

Green color should stay. People need to know that not everyone is an iZombie. Also this is US only problem. The rest of the world uses superior cross-platform messaging apps.

Is it really so shameful having green bubbles. Whats next will the internet people force apple to remove their logo because it discriminates against people who don’t have apple products.

Apple iPhones are only popular in the United States. All around the world everyone else uses android devices. Samsung devices are some of the most sophisticated and expensive phones out there yet snobby apple people still look down upon android users even though android phones are far more sophisticated customizable And more expensive. I use an old IPhone XS but have a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra that I use as well.

One important correction: RCS (the S is for suite, not services) was not designed and defined by Google. It is a standard the GSMA are designing developing and promoting for years. That is, it is a suite of services to be implemented by the MNOs, like SMS, MMS, and Voice Mail. it is NOT a Google service.

This is very exciting. Even after all these years. Promoting RCS had bean one of the major projects of my career (2011-2015 as part of Comverse).

Can’t imagine how exciting these news would have been for me 10 ago…

Something is wrong with these Apple people. The way they talked about messed up group messages or poor quality pics sounds like it's androids fault when it's clearly Apple. Us android uses don't care bc our messages, group messages comes out fine. Also we can change the color of our bubble to what we like. Americans are weird with text color.

The color bubbles should change to be honest. I read a few times that some kids are being bullied for having a green bubble and therefore, being too poor to own an iPhone. This is insane and stupid. Also, if integration is seamless, just like when we could only send sms from different branded phones, it should be similar in this case.

Well now they have confirmed it’s still a green bubble. It’s far more of a US thing as most people in Europe use a mix of messaging services. It will be interesting to see if people use other messaging services like WhatsApp and telegram less then they currently do, when the experience between android and iOS improves.
