No one has ever been able to explain the usefulness of increasing the "profiles" under styles. It's a huge trap for beginners as it's default set to 2.

Hey Justin, how you doing? Love your content man! I am actually facing a problem when I use sketchup, my surfaces get corrupted, and by that I mean that a simple square/rectangle gets cut into 3 smaller triangles and I am not able to fix it , can you help me troubleshoot this ? Thanks

Hey Justin, thanks for all the useful tips you're putting out there.
Concerning the FinalQuality scene though, I'd recommand never saving a scene with shadows on since it's taking a real toll on the computer. I usually toggle it afterwards via a shortcut. Wouldn't you agree ?

I thought sketchup would die years ago but I'm surprised it still being used. Can I ask the reasons why is it still used? What are it's strong points in comparison with other software? It seems old fashioned and outdated. Thanks

@thesketchupessentials im trying to find a video on a task I’m trying to do in making shelves that are part of a dynamic component. I want to have the option of selecting the qty of shelves from an “option” I create and when done so the shelves will equally space within the cabinet. So if the cabinet has a height of 36 I can select 3 or 4 shelves and they will evenly distribute. I already have the model it’s the function I’m having difficulty writing. Any help would be great. Thx

Thanks for another great straight-to-the-point tutorial, I Still like this channel to see latest updates and interesting things showcased clearly :)

Maybe wouldn't it be great if there was a clever plug in that could cut out the background excessive background geometry that you not currently working/modelling on for gigantic files (such as whole e.g urban masterplans) and temporarily purge it from the model and then have that background unneeded geometry saved as a separate file until you finished working on a building then run the said plugin again and it import & stitches the background geometry back in?

In other words, does anyone know how much of a time difference if any there is for a large detailed model to be modelling working on 1 building while the rest of the background model is hidden (e.g hidden geometry/hidden tags or layers) VS the rest of the background model having been deleted and removed from the main model and saved as a separate file (all entities purged from the model, unique materials/tags) and find a way to integrate the background model into the main model in future when you finished modelling a particular building/area.

Does SketchUp have temporary memory of the geometry not shown but maybe SketchUp knows it is there at all time or does it only load/generate it when the layer is turned on or unhidden to be visible?

Maybe a potential time saving there but shadows/fog/styles are the things that understandably seem to slow SketchUp down the most then maybe the existence of excessive geometry (e.g other detailed buildings) in the background not directly editing might just slow it down or not?

Still, you doing great videos.

Did you decide to stop the Rhino 3-D channel? Was Rhino way roo time consuming?

My desktop PC is really high spec and has no issues with any of my other 3d or video editing softwares, but strangely struggles with complicated Sketchup models. A few tweaks shown here have really helped. Cheers Justin
