I sat through a 10 hour session and took like three 5 minute breaks. No numbing cream. I agree, a long session and it wearing off would shock the body.

Lol. I've been to 8 hour sessions with no cream. I just came back from a 6+ hours session and I can tell you. Use it!

I have two tattoos never used numbing cream. But really thinking about for my next one I have to get my armpit area and elbow done. Which I am super nervous about my pain tolerance isn’t that high at least when it comes to tattoos. Just need to find a good brand.

Abso-fuckin-lutely imma use the cream 🤨. All the old heads talkin bout you gotta earn it just like pain & that’s fine some ppl actually enjoy pain somehow. I on the other hand, like most ppl, def do not. My ancestors went through enough for generations to come lmao. But fr I agree you should at least def do your first full out or maybe tough out any small ones just for the experience of knowing yeah this is what it feels like fr & yes I could sit through it. & to see if maybe you’re lucky enough to have a high pain tolerance & don’t even really need cream idk. But big ass sleeves & pieces with hella shading or color fuuuuck that numb it up please. Plus I’ve already felt the pain before?!?! Hell nah it’s useless beating a dead horse like that in my opinion. If you’ve felt it once you’ve felt it all. Yes there’s areas that’re more sensitive than others that may raise the pain LEVEL, but it’s still the same pain FEELING yk? So yeah I say numb it if you want beautiful art on you & don’t wanna be in pain. If you like the pain or think you should suffer to “earn” the tattoo you paid probably hundreds for then hey whatever floats your boat 🤷🏾‍♀️. A couple things I’m worried about (I haven’t gotten a tat that needs the cream yet but will soon & WILL be numbed tf up hopefully like at the dentist) that I hear mentioned a lot is,
depending on how long your piece takes, the cream could wear off during it & then you’re just hit with the shock of all the skin trauma you’ve been going through at once, plus it’s still going cuz it’s not done yet. I’m hoping that doesn’t happen for me or that if it does I can just handle it & it’s not like super worse just cuz it was numb. Cuz I mean ppl tap out cuz of it being so painful from the start so it would make sense to me to be able to handle more pain for less time than gradual pain the whole time 🤷🏾‍♀️. The other thing is ppl say the cream affects the quality of the tattoo like lasting over time. Idk what would affect it when they have to put like that Vaseline balm just to tattoo anyway, but since so many artists don’t say anything about that, I’m sure it boils down to the artists application & technique & how your skin just takes the ink in general. 🤷🏾‍♀️ but like everything in tattooing, it just depends on so many different factors at the end of the day & ppl are gonna do what they wanna do with their bodies as we already know. Well thanks for coming to my TedTalk if anyone read to the end of this novel about my opinion on numbing cream. 😂😂😂 So excited to get more tats! 💖🌸🫶🏾

I have an artist that’s cool with it, he rubs it in while he tattoos. I have others that don’t use it and won’t let you use it. 🤷‍♀️ still hurts either way. About to get my knee blasted next month and I intend on doing everything possible to last this session 🫣😅

2 years ago i fell off my electric skate board going 30mph and fell on my right side and covered it in road rash, gashed my right eyebrow open, ripped off a thumb nail, and ripped my plam off on my left hand trying to catch myself. present day I got my first tattoo, 4 of them infact and when I tell you getting a tat right above the knee was the worst pain Ive ever felt in my life I mean it. The crash and any other pain I've had could never match it. The other 3 where a cool 3-4 out of 10, the knee was at least a 20.

I’ve got my full neck tattooed and it’s getting covered at the moment. I just had one side redone with no numbing cream, but for the throat I may use it as I’ve been through the pain already on the throat and really can’t be bothered with it again 😂

What about just having an anesthesiologist on staff? No conversation, no pain breaks, just do the work start to finish, then....."Ok, doc.....bring em back". Think of the possibilities. Theoretically, you could put someone on the table, put em under, and have a couple artists working are various sections at once🙂

I haven't used numbing cream and so far I didn't feel the need. I have a high pain tolerance, I guess and every session I had so far was an 8 hours session. I also don't like breaks, I just take them if my artist needs them. After two days in a row the white parts did hurt, but apart from that I enjoyed it more than I really thought it'd be painful at all.

Used it once, on the advice from my artist, when I was getting my chest done. Worked great for about an hour then it wore off. Haven't used for any other tattoos(sleeve and both calves). Might use again when I get my knees done on my leg sleeve.

I always wanted a tattoo and the idea of having pain it scared me off. I didn't know about numbing creams until I talked to someone with many tattoos and recommended it tktx numbing cream. I used it and now I have 6 so far. I used it all the time. It has been a learning experience to correctly apply the cream. My last 2 tattoos were pain free. I want more tattoos and I would not do it without the cream. In my case it's great and it it works because my tattoo sessions are 2 hours because mine are small ones (6 inches the bigger ones)

Maybe I am a chicken but finally I have tattoos as always wanted.

😊

Hey Mike. Another great video. Like you, I have spent a fair few hours under the tattoo needle and not really needed any numbing creams or sprays. You know what they say right...where there's no sense there's no feeling. I have been going to the same artist for the last 7 years and we have never even mentioned using them, mainly because all of my previous work is in black and grey. That all changed for my last tattoo, which is also my first colour one, the one I sent you of my son's portrait on my inner forearm sitting in a deck chair. Because it has such a lot of detail in it he has found, through experience, that using Bactine spray reduces the area being worked on from swelling up so he can get all that detail in and know it won't look out of proportion when the swelling goes down. You have seen the work he has previously done for me so you know he is worth listening to. Cut a long story short he used the spray throughout the day and the tattoo turned out awesome. The only downside to it is that when he tattooed the small area he had numbed it was great, did not feel a thing other than the pressure of the needle. As soon as he moved away from that area it was like being given an electric shock, the pain was suddenly there all at once and to me felt more severe than normal. It quickly subsided back to normal, like starting up again after a break, but then we would go back to a detailed piece and be numbed again. Given the option, having tried both methods, I would opt for no numbing creams or sprays as I am quite comfortable without. That said, I wanted the best quality tattoo I could get so took the advice of a professional that I trust implicitly, will probably have to do it all again when I have my daughters portrait done on my outer forearm.

I have only one tattoo. I didn't even ask about it. I'm glad I didn't. I wanted to be able to know what it genuinely felt like. The artist told me that I sat very well (about 2.5 hours) and would probably do well even with some difficult body parts if I wanted another in the future. Also, I would be one of those folks you mentioned who would have an eye on the clock dreading the moment the pain kicked in. That stress would be worse than getting used to the pain for the whole time in the chair.

Never used, I see pain as a part of a tattoo.
Also I have super sensitive skin, so I need to avoid everything that may interfere with the tattoo session.
