Zane, great stuff. I used this tutorial to set up my Akai MPK mini. I'm always amazed when things work, and it did. I noticed the sample library on the left column of the strings "window". Have you produced a video where one can access those samples via midi pads? It would be awesome to tap out those samples into cakewalk. (you can tell I'm a total newb at this)

This tutorial assumes everyone's MIDI keyboard is already working fine, so I'm confused of why everyone is saying is useful??? I was looking for one that actually explains how to make Cakewalk play from your keyboard. Mine is showing on the MIDI settings, everything is checked etc but there is no sound coming through the software.

I have an m-audio keystation 88 usb midi keyboard and this didn't work for me. I don't know why. :(

my keyboard is checked off on inputs and shows up fine and everything but when i opened it up to the piano thing there was no sound whatsoever

I am learning so much from your tutorials. I purchased the keystation in your tutorial and plugged it into my computer. I followed the steps as in the video, but when I pull up the interface and start recording using the keystation, I will hear it for couple seconds and then it stops playing. There's no sound coming from the keystation keyboard. I go back to preferences and the keyboard is still checked. Do you know what the issue is and how to fix this?

The free version of cakewalk doesn’t have the plug-ins like piano, I tried to download one and it works as a standalone program but I don’t think it has the VST capability as I’ve tried to add the path into the manager and it won’t show. Are there any free plugins I can use to get started? I’m interested in making my midi controller like a piano and also drums, I have modo drums vst but the keyboard plays notes not beats when it’s opened as a plug-in, modo as a stand-alone lets me play drums on the midi. I just need to learn these little basics then I’ll be rolling 😎

hi, i connected my WORLDE PANDA MINI to my laptop via mini usb, though i still cant find my MIDIs name in the preferences. one time it appeared on the screen that "a new MIDI is plugged in do u allow cakewalk to save?" and then it started working and i found it in the preferences.

Hi, i need your assistance please. This is in regards to Cakewalk the free version. My issue is: I am trying to get the software to recognize my YAMAHA PSR 36. I t does have midi in and out at the back. Another thing that i have realized is that: in Cakewalk, in Preferences, Audio-Devices-Input Drivers its empty. Then below that at Output, the box is checked and it say Speakers (Realtek High Def...)

At Preferances - MIDI the above is the same only differance is Output which has Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth. Please assist me.

My midi controller is connected thru my MOTU midi express 128. I'm getting a signal when I press the keys and able to record a midi track, but I'm not getting audio when I press a key or play the recorded track. What am I doing wrong?

quite simple tutorial, bu it doesn't work for me. i can see the keyboard is interacting with cakewalk by the little green lights when I hit the notes, but no sound comes out.I tried to make sound go directly out from the laptop, like said in the comments, but still nothing. theres something I don't understand (i'm french) "if it doesn't work, go back to preferences and make sure your midi keyboard is checked off".... why would we need to check it off if it is exacly what was said in order to apply keyboard on cakewalk? I think a troubleshooting video would be grat, in order to debug the problem.

I set up my Akai MPK mini to Cakewalk, but it won't allow me to select "Master" as an output option, so it only makes traditional piano or drum sounds from the keyboard/pad, but not any of the synth or string sounds. Any ideas?

Good video if everything works correctly but not if problems pop up. I was not able to load my ekeys-49. Kept getting the msg "not enough memory available".

question: just got my first midi device and all i get out of cakewalk is buzzing, no matter the instrument. The tone of the buzzing depends on the key I press, but it is still not the instrument I have selected. Any help would be appreciated

Hey ATTV. Thanks man. My son, and I built a device to measure electrical activity in plants and convert them to midi with an arduino. Since the project we were using as a jumping off place is quite old and without more modern software. SO I found Bome Midi pro for free and Cakewalk worked well to be able to listen to plant speak...so to speak.

It took me forever to figure out what was happening. It was summed up in 10 seconds of your video. Again, thanks. He is a happy 10 year old now.
