Where’s the Xperia 1 v review

Based on yours on Juan Bagnell's videos about this phone, this was the phone I chose. First time going "all out" with a phone in years and years. And I am probably as happy as I ever have been comparitively after buying a new phone than I can remember.

I had a 1-2 year old mid range Moto as a daily driver, but I was just tired of always waiting slightly for the phone to do anything and everything. So I decided to stop buying mid range phones. Now I'm just waiting for a case and screen protector.

The things really that sold me are the dual front facing speakers, headphone jack, sd card expansion slot, and video out.
Dual front facing speakers are so rare anymore.

There's always the dream of having cake and auto eat it too

Whats the point of the manual mode if theres automatic mode? People will just use the automatic mode eventually and forget the manual mode.

It's a timeless design. Better than holes, notches, uneven chins and foreheads. It's perfect symmetry. I hope it never changes It's form just like classic motorcycles. I hope they used this opportunity to include front facing speakers.

I wish people would stop saying it's a 4K display. It upscales for 4k but its native resolution is 1080p+

That's the strategy of Sony to keep its foothold in the market..some dying hard fan especially focusing on to enthusiasts can basically afford this phone..

Or even if they were able to rewrite it for android Iv used that before on windows and think it would be awesome porting it to android.

Thanks for the info! Did you have any problems with recording audio on external mic while filming? I'm using a rode video micro+sc7 cable and my audio levels are way low than I would like to have at the maximum volume input settings (they are 2 times lower than on internal mic).

It's probably a good thing that there aren't any stores locally that sell the Sony Xperia 1 IV, because if I encountered it out in the wild then my usual self-control would fly out the window. It's basically the ideal upgrade from my current Galaxy Note 9. Great cameras, great screen, expandable storage, headphone jack, and it even goes one step further by having stereo front-firing speakers, which are one of my favorite features that practically nobody puts in their phones. If I had a spare $1500, I would 100% buy one.

I still think you should revisit the Xperia 1 IV tbh. It’s September now and I hope you’ll be able to do so

The reality is that I wanted the Xperia 1 IV soo bad because it had all the hardware features I needed such as the "HEADPHONE JACK", dual speakers, OLED Screen, huge internal storage & EXTERNAL STORAGE via MicroSD cards, and mostly it was a build in Walkman as well with great sound output for playing my 80's jams in my hi end BMW DSP sound system!

But for a price of $1,600 freakin' mulas, I said Hell NO! and vow to find a better phone with all the features I'm looking for that the Xperia has...

So Lo and Behold, after deep research I stumbled on the most powerful Xiaomi Note they have ever created! To my surprise it had everything i was looking for that the Xperia had and more! Yet for the amazing price of less than $400, packed with features that the Xperia which it had makes it an amazing deal and beast of a phone!

The $400 Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G has a beautiful 120Hz AMOLED screen with 365 touch points, 700 nits up to 1200 nits automatic brightness when out in the sunlight, PHONE JACK, AMAZING dual stereo speakers TUNED by JBL, 256gb internal storage with up to 1TB EXTERNAL storage via Micro SD card, it's also an amazing Hi-Fi audio player that when connected via the phone-jack it unleashes studio sound-stage quality sound that you can tweak via it's sound settings and boy it's freakin' sounds amazing! Oh yeah, it's very powerful super fast and the most battery amazing thing of it is that it's freakin' HyperCharges the battery phone in about 15 minutes via it's powerful 120W wall charger when "Boot Charging" is enabled. You get a build in perfect super clear screen protector, charger w/6A cable and it's perfect designed fits like a glove super clear (non-yellowing) phone case! Everything included what else would I want, it's the perfect beast phone for me saving me $1,200 for not buying that mediocre Xperia phone!
Now running Android 12 with MIUI 13 it just keeps getting better.... OH wait... didn't even mentioned it's pro camera features the Note 11 Pro+ has, soo many yet easy to use that the layout should be noticed by Sony for their phones.... Man the Forest Green matte color in this phone is just beautiful!..

The Pro-I had too many problems I can't overlook so very much looking to your review of the US version of this which finally is coming soon now that we hit September. Love your "snarky" review style, as my comments to a couple of your devices will attest as they hit on my electronic pet peeve. I'm sure once you get your hands on the US version of this you will have a full review asap. Let's just hope Sony tweaked those cameras some!

And I don't know about you, but they have a true 1-in sensor available now & it's going in to yet another China only phone. Let's put this thing into a new generation homegrown Pro-I, hire some dorks from Google to get their piss-poor auto mode up to snuff...and really get cooking!

hows the overheating?

I own mark 3, and i tell you software wise it is horrible!

Snapdragon heats too much, and never in my life i thought i would say this: it throttles!

The camera ui: it is really good, if you are photographer and know all the abbreviations like AEL and stuff, but i would prefer something like old sumple Xperia XZ ui with all settings on screen.

Also wish that Audio recorder app would work! I own 3.5 jack microphone, stm10 or something like that, and can't use it because software doesn't work anymore! It was a god tier microphone so, sony dear, why you stop supporting the Audio recorder app? It was best thing i ever used!

I am genuinely considering rooting my old xz and continuing using it until it bricks, and using mark 3 as a gaming/multimedia console. The audio quality is excellent and mind-blowing!

Sony needs to step it up

Did you not face overheating issues on this that many have been complaining about recently??

This phone just sucks, the worst In had for years. It's overheating after taking only 28 photos within 5 minutes, it's overheating while charging, it's overheating watching videos or playing games. Especially at 120hz. The photoquality is not even close to my former Huawei P30 Pro. Sound quality is okay. The only thing that stands out is the price, it's way overpriced for a bad product. This phone is a midrange quality. Never a Sony again.

What I'm curious about and didn't hear get mentioned was how long are the OS and security updates going to last on this phone that's $1,600? Once those run out your phone effectively becomes obsolete as it's open to security vulnerabilities. This thing would have to be supported for at least as long as iPhones to make it worth it.

Im an iPhone user for a long time, switch on and off; but Sony keeps inticing me as an amateur/pro photographer... I bought a Nikon Z6 which I love, but the combo of Sony phones and cameras are soo nice.

just sad that Sony's mobile division pulled out in my country

I've bought this phone a week ago in Sweden, what did they mean with "release in September..."? It does heat up but not so that it shuts itself off, but my scenario is B-roll, a little of selfie mode talk, stills on the go. The 120fps on all three cameras was the selling point that hit my string. I bought the Xperia 5 II my backup camera for inteviews and other client work, and with good lighting, nobody noticed it wasn't a footage from my A6400 for ex. The Xperia 1 IV will serve the same purpose but with that crazy frame rate it's much more versatile. Yes, I don't even have a SIM card in it, don't care for any other functions but the photo and video apps.

I use the headphone jack way more often than anyone thinks. This is a good upgrade

Really great first look. Very detailed and well structured. I would gladly wait to see your full review when it becomes available. Based on existing review it look like overheating is occurring much more frequently than prior models and even in low to moderate use. The images I have seen out of Xperia i IV as lacking color vibrancy and in some cases it seem there might be lock of sharpness. I doubt if SONY will address them by the time it releases it in to the U.S. market. In addition, I find it completely unacceptable that this unit is sold without a charger at this price point.

I say yes, revisit the phone.

well, the price in my country is 1399 euros, the same as s22 ultra or the same as 256gb iphone 13 pro. Compared to them, this seems like a good option.

As a mobile content creator, I think if this were a really good foldable or if Sony would combine with Microsoft I could see this being the complete mobile creator package but not just a candy bar style phone.
