Thanks for the details, which has helped me a lot to set up my son’s device. I don’t have Lighting to 30 pins adapter, but lightling to USB one. Will be my adapter still working? I would like to find it out before purchasing the USB hub. Thanks again!

OR you could just buy one of the hundreds of external microphones that have been made for iPhone

Just watched this and the new vide w/o hub. My question is have you or anyone tried using this setup w/ other USB mics or 2 H1's? Could the hub be used as a mixer for multiple USB mics?

If it does work I assume the audio would still come into the iPhone as one file and not left/right separate.

Hi Aaron, thanks for the vid.

Can I somehow transfer the audo files via your setup into imovie? Or do I have to record directly in video mode? are the sound files stereo? Sorry for all the questions.

I don't understand why this is necessary? You can press the record button on the zoom as good as on your mobile... so I don't get it. Can someone explain?

Can you just use a regular cable for the iPhone to the hub.
Why do you have to go from lighting, to 30 pin, to camer kit?

I think u can actually go to the menu in H1n and choose its power source from battery over the usb when connected. That way, u won't need a usb hub at all. just an AA battery.

ps I don't have my Zoom with me right now so i can't really confirm but it worths a try tho.

Isn't it way much easier to record sound on zoom's sd card and then sync it with iPhone's video?

I have a zoom and want to try this. why if you use batteries, would you need to use a powered usb hub? wouldn't the battery powered zoom not draw power from iPad??

I suspect the error message is a default error popping up in iOS because at first you directly plug the Zoom into the iPhone, it reads it as a Zoom H1 and kicks it. Obviously it can be powered by tricking the iPhone into seeing it a a generic mic and not a Zoom, via the USB hub, which somehow keeps the iPhone from identifying it as a Zoom. This would then be something IOS would need to patch. If anything, adding the unpowered hub and other cords, increases the demand on the connection, which proves it can more than support the Zoom. Great video. I have Zoom H1 and iPhone 5 myself.

Great video. I wonder if the too much power alert has been corrected now in iOS 8.
Anyway, I think if you get quite serious about filming and using the H1, an alternative is using Final Cut Pro, and record the audio separately, the software will automatically mix them and synch the audio track.

Is it possible to get the same functionality using a USB to Lightning connector and the powered USB hub? It looks like Apple recommend a powered hub where there's incompatibility.
It'd be nice to reduce the number of new purchases required.

Question... If this is connected and I recorded on just the regular iPhone camera, would the audio still be from the zoom? Or do you have to record it in GarageBand
