A mixed number is just an integer plus a fraction. 2 1/6 is the same as 2 + 1/6. So just add the integers and the fractions separately, reduce the resulting improper fraction, if such, to an integer and a fraction and then add up the integers. Beauty of this method is it works no matter how many mixed numbers you are adding. No need to convert all of the mixed numbers to improper fractions.
