Switching From Windows to Mac | Ableton User Guide

Wow, thats weird, cause right now im questioning whether i should go for a macbook pro, or buy a windows laptop for my main productivity machine and then this video shows up. Hmmm.

It is not a fair comparison. With the money you spent on the macbook you could've gotten a much better windows laptop. It's not fair to compare it with the one you have there

I'm using Windows OC (specifications: Intel Core i5 3rd gen, 6gb RAM, 1 TB Hard Drive) and sometimes ableton lite (Got with Novation Impulse) suddenly stop working and have force stop it.
So, I can't able to figure out where is the problem? Is it due to Windows or installation problem or any bugs in ableton....?
Like you are using Windows and ableton so long time did you ever face this type of problem?

But now im thinking of getting an imac 27inch.
Is the operating system hard to get used to?
Are there any problems?
Also the main reason i want to get a mac is because of logic pro x, i have tried the free versions of other daws and they just seem not as easy.

So you have the dual-core 13" MacBook Pro without the new touch bar, right? What was the spec of your Ultrabook? I am working on a quadcore desktop pc (i5 from maybe like 5 years ago) and would hate it if I maxed the cpu with some plug-ins easily. But I don't want to spend more than 2k max and use a macbook for live performances...

Everyone I know is going the other way. I have both but rarely use Mac anymore.

I was diehard PC. I even specialised in Cakewalk Sonar for years as it was PC only. Last year December my PC started playing up so with a heavy heart I bought a MacBook pro and some hardware from Native Instruments Maschine range. I have got to say it Mac is superior for music production. I still use the PC now and then for what still works but the MacBook pro is my go to machine now

Is the i5 dual core cpu strong enough to to run ableton with vsts such as serum and massive? I'm looking at getting a Mac becuae I'm a graphic designer aswell and it's industry standard windows is just becoming a nuisance to run.

with the introduction of windows 10 windows has came along way it is now stable i use it for ableton with no crashes at all

here's the problem....people think "oh it's windows! I can spend half as much and get the same power!" FALSE. A couple reasons that's false. First, Apple makes LITERALLY every part in the computer besides the CPU. Second, Macbooks use what's called "memory compression". This will take 8Gb of RAM, take what you aren't actively using, and makes the most of what you ARE utilizing, which is why 8GB of RAM in a Mac will benchmark at or above 16Gb in a Windows machine. Third, The security is out of this world...duh...in order to match a MacBook pro with Windows, newsflash, YOU HAVE TO PAY JUST AS MUCH. Only Windows computer that competes with the $2400 MBP, and that's the RazerBlade 14". Same price, same performance, same or better build quality, and ports. That's why people get upset. They spend $700 on a Windows computer and get surprised when it doesn't perform the same as a Mac. NO, just because theyre both i5 8Gb doesn't mean they perform the same.

What people need to understand is that Linux is superior, to both.






Let's just hope people actually start making decent software for it.

While I have experience with Mac, I've been on Windows all my life, but I JUST switched to an iMac for one reason only - Windows 10 forced updates (which do not allow me to update on my own schedule. This has caused an enormous level of issues over the past year, and they can be unpredictable. So I'm about to plug up my new iMac, get to migrating everything and thanks for the rundown.

I've got a $500 windows pc and latency (even after reducing buffer size, ect...) is still a pretty big problem. Any different on a mac?

also, please use reasonably priced macs. I'm sure a $6000 computer has little latency, but that's not exactly in my budget.

I'm kinda late on this video but i could use some help from you guys. I'm currently looking for a laptop OR Macbook Pro but i'm stuck... The device is gonna be used for Cubase and Traktor mainly but in time i want to make the transition to Ableton Live for the live performance aspect. I've been looking at some MSI laptops which are really powerfull imo and the Razer Stealth 15" but i still wonder if these are as steady as a Macbook Pro for Ableton Live in the end... I could really use some help haha.

Did you try Windows 10 LTSC? Did you optimize on right way your Windows for audio?
And ofc it's same as MacBook Air vs MacBook Pro, on Windows is - some basic plastic hardwer for daily use vs Windows Workstations (or some quality hardwer).
Did you even own some Windows workstation?
Not every Apple product is for music production / DJing, same situation with Windows.
Cheers and don't lost with shiny/fancy apple on background with some Apple marekting, that logo can make you "blind" and they will take your money for...nothing! :)

Will ableton run on a MacBook Air? What cpu and ram is recommended? Understood having hard drive capacity is key.

bottom line Pc is for video editing and gaming. Mac is music software.

What make/model is your external harddrive? Is it solid state or HDD? Did you also have to change file types for sample libraries?

I’m planning to switch to Mac soon. I’ve faced some serious issues with windows. The softwares crash and even take longer to boot up. Above that, it’s extremely difficult to troubleshoot anything on windows, without having multiple options.

Mac suks. Very expensive if you want high processing CPU which important.and don't forget you have to buy other stuff separately which should include all together. Instead of buying MAC, buy a PC, and monitor. This will get you a high processor and everything u need to produce music way more cheaper than mac.

I am going to switch from windows to iMac in the future as well. I want to combine logic pro with ableton and this video helped me to understand how to registrate from one device to another one. I was kinda afraid that its not possible to registrate from a different pc but thank God it's possible. Subscribed!

Just switched from windows to a Mac mini. Should've done it 5 years ago!
So much faster. Hasn't crashed once so far. My windows laptop crashed at least once an hour.
Mac mini actually cost just £70 more than the laptop cost 7 years ago.
