I hope AMD will go for at least 4 channels RAM access, as this is what those APU would need to feed their iGPUs.

I just upgraded back in Jan. from a 3800X to the 580X3D. So I think I'm good for a while. I never get the cheapest motherboard. Currently running a Asus Crosshair VIII Hero. But the cost of AM5 MB's just don't sit right with me. As I would be looking at the X670 level boards for an upgrade. And just to get a few extra frames is not worth it for me.

I feel compelled to express my dissatisfaction with AMD Radeon. For years, AMD Radeon has been unable to create a technology that competes with Nvidia's CUDA cores. This is a significant issue because CUDA cores have become the industry standard for professionals in 3D rendering, AI, video editing, and visual effects.

Nvidia released CUDA in 2006, giving AMD Radeon nearly two decades to develop a competitive alternative. Unfortunately, they have failed miserably. This lack of competition has left many professionals with no choice but to rely on Nvidia, stifling innovation and limiting options in the market.

Additionally, I am concerned that Radeon may only launch low and mid-range graphics cards this year, allowing Intel to gain more market share. This could lead to significant pressure on AMD Radeon from investors next year, as Intel could capture a substantial chunk of Radeon’s market share with the Intel Battlemage series.

If BM is going for 4080 performance, just like RDNA4, we could have some really great competition in that segment!

I'm waiting for a high performance Desktop APU to release before I consider upgrading my rig. I'd love to game on my PC without the need for a dGPU that generates heat and uses too much power. Having said that, that way it'll improve air flow inside the case too.

The Strix Point APU has the 880m and with 16 CUs. That is equal to a GTX 1660 desktop card. That is IMPRESSIVE. Good for AMD. Then, the desktop APU with 40 CU is absolutely mental. I love it.

Lol, I can't think of anyone that is "Happy" to pay $1600+ for a top of the line GPU, whether it is labeled an 80Ti or 90 or 900XTX for that matter. We do it because we are idiots. Especially when the next card down is 33%+ less expensive. I didn't want to shell out $1500-$2200 from my paycheck that week not did I want to pull it out of the bank or put it on a CC, so I did what I did for the 4090 (which I didn't end up buying bc it was priced $400 more than I was willing to pay for that class of card, and I ignored the 4080 as well bc it simply was not worth $1200 to me.) Anyway, I literally just tossed $5 here, $20 there into an envelope over the course of the generation and ended up with around $1500 bucks. I pulled $525 out for a 3080 when I decided the new cards sucked price-wise and I was not going to get what I wanted without feeling shitty about it. I literally did not want to help encourage that kind of price hike.

Now with real life inflation $1600 doesn't feel as ridiculous as it did two years ago, and I have well over that in said "sock drawer envelope" collecting dust, so when the cards launch, if the 90 class card is $2K or less I'll just buy it then call it a day. I'd 100% give some serious consideration to an AMD competitor if there is one, but it needs to be able to raytrace well without using frame gen. By "Well" I mean 60FPS+ at 4K with quality upscaling in games like Cyberpunk. It doesn't have to be the top end pathracing mode, but it needs to be able to nail a step below it, or 1.5 ray bounces minimum with "High" settings and "Ultra" textures. That probably takes the 5080 out of the mix because my guess is it will run out of VRAM in more than a few games before the next series is launched, with 16GB being the 10GB of 2020. Seems fine at launch, and two years later it's right on the edge, with games coming out in year 3 of it's life that simply need more than the VRAM on board. Not a big deal if you buy it used, but a real bummer if you spend $1K and in two years you HAVE to replace the card to run games with the settings you want. I'm sure 16GB will be fine at 1440P, even with RT if you use upscaling, but without some crazy new compression algorithms, 16GB is not going to last much longer at 1440P native in single player games. The textures and shadows/reflections along with complex AI scipt animations are simply demanding more and more. Plus, I'm guessing this console gen is going to be a short one, and there is no way the PS6 or Xbox "Windows Gaming Hub" or wtv they call their next box are going to have at least a 24GB pool if not dedicated video memory.

Intel cant afford to be 1or 2gen behind so Battlemage needed to launch May/June24 as it will struggle against RTX50 especially if Nvidia decide they want to push intel out by cutting prices, then RDNA4 is strong but a stop gap I think RDNA5 was progressing better than expected and with RDNA4 high end hit with a bug/Fault that wasn't quick to fix they decided to kill it and Accelerator RDNA5 high end for a 2025 release.
If AMD can scale the low power & great performance of apus to higher Wattage GPUs. I believe AMD RDNA5 chiplet Parts will achieve this and with chiplets they will be able to Taylor GPUs to all markets and prices like with Zen.

i upgraded my r5 3600 with a gtx1080 8gb and 16gb ram last december, because of some problems i faced withmy monitor and the wallmounted case... turned out, everything i did was unnecessary. well. considering that i was quite satisfied with my old system, the components i have now should have a 10 year shelf life.

Also, blender's Blenchmark is notorious for being inconsistent and not recognizing new hardware...but yeah, power limit is the most plausible; being capped, say at ~2ghz will affect performance vs a 4-5ghz chip 😂

I've JUST been going through the upgrade path from a 2700x with 1660 Super to ... DOING NOTHING! I put a halt on it... I weighed everything up for my mid-range budget and it just does not make sense to upgrade right now. 7600 XT isn't giving the performance for price, 4060 sits on 8GB of memory, AMD releases a CPU with GOOD discreet graphics and we wait to see what Battlemage will REALLY be like... I feel like putting money in to upgrading right now is just not the right time.. but the right time will be just a few months away!!

No way i will upgrade my r5 7600 its enough to power a 4080 so i hope intel dilivers that level of performance i will be the first to buy. The new zen5 cpus will get better performence to push the am4 users to upgrade the will see like a 9600 30% faster than a 5800x3d at 300 usd which eventually will get to 200 usd great value

Upgrading every gen is just stupid for gamers. Waiting two gens or more before upgrading the CPU is more rewarding and price effective. Now if you have just too much money then go ahead and spend it if you like, but if you are a reasonably normal person I suggest you wait at least two generations. The times it's relevant to upgrade after a single gen is if you use your computer for very intensive work and solving things faster give you more money. The other case is if your current machine is using a very low end processor and you want to have better performance to support a swanky new GPU such as the RTX 4090. All of this sucks for those on Intel platforms as the MB will only support two or possibly three generations so the chance are that if you wait two generations you might have to replace the motherboard.

All in all, it depends, but waiting at least two generations are probably a better value.

At 1440p, the 5800X3D is still strong enough for the next gen graphic card i think... I have a 6700XT, does the job well enough, but it's a bit lacking for my games... After that, I think it will be more and more difficult for games to make me buy new hardware... I'm enjoying less and less newer games.

For myself I am on i5 / i7 (two gaming pcs) 8000 series. So I am quite behind and can feel the performance hit on new titles especially in i5.
So Zen 5 is totally on my target, unless intel offers something better, which so far I doubt.

Based on your comment about AM4 to Zen5 upgrade... I'm actually waiting for the X3D version of Zen5 to upgrade from my 5800X3D. If IPC is as high as it might seem to be, I'll definitely go for something like that in order to move off from AM4/DDR4 (have it since the 3600X)

I'm on a Ryzen 3700X right now, wondering if I should upgrade to Ryzen 5xxx while prices or good or should I wait for the new stuff. Leaning towards waiting as the 3700X still works well enough most of the time, though it does bottleneck my gpu in some games.

I would expect most the new products to release around the typical October-November window as per normal. At first this doesn't look to be as important as what hits next October when Win 10 goes out of support, but if trends continue those will continue to be the top skews. Availability may be limited due to mass corporate purchases, I would expect the lower SKUsthat tend to come in January - February to be massive sellers fall. Whoever has their driver packages together and stable come early ordering for mass purchases combined with reasonable pricing will likly be a very big winner.
TLDR: The line-up that starts this fall will be the newest lineup when corporate buying rushes the end of life for Win10. Whoever has the best for the price at that time will be a big winner.
