Would've really liked to see an Evo 9 on the same tires with new brakes & rotors because my mint would be on the Evo 9 in that comparison test

I would say Fifth gear should have used the RS version its 1240kgs
rather than the GSR FQ300
Also the tyres and brakes its after all a 20 year old car

20 years of development and only 1.4 seconds improvement
In my eyes the Evo wins, that’s timeless performance

But the Evo VII is better looking.

We need more Evo like cars

A modern Eclipse GSX would be amazing.

Fifth gear usual confusion of lbft and nm. Who put up this spec sheet? Turbocharge engine will never have similar power and torque figure!

Now put 20yo energy saver tyres on toyota and ad09r semislicks on evo instead.
Dont forget to put new brakes aswell and do a dyno to make sure that a 20 yo car still produces same power. What a lazy comparisson

I ALWAYS prefer Fifth Gear over Top Gear as I dislike Clarkson! Hammond and May are OK. JP and Tiff... my favorites.

what is astonishing, is the thought that drooling old kids blabbering about fast cars held for 20 years. On the other hand it is tuned to the audience who's ultimate entertainment is watching ball kickers...

a while back ...15 years or so...I took on an Evo on a short dual carriage way with a sharp bend that filtered onto another d-c way. I was in a Griff 500. On the straight no problem - into the bend!! oh my god he didn't seem to slow down...just drifted it round..straightened out.. and off he went.. very impressive..Jap technology!

How compact hatchback GR Yaris with 4 seats and 174L of boot space weights almost the same as 5 seater Evo 7 sedan with 400L of boot space? Considering they've got quite similar capability. What is that we've lost in those 20 years?

This evo reminds me quite alot of my EVO 9 days... well, because it was from the very same chassis!.. ill always be a fan!!!

I’d still take the Evo :) but it’s proof of how far modern turbos have come as Yaris has more torque from a 3cyl engine.

Yaris might be quicker on the track . But I'll still take the EVO thanks ...

The evo vs wrx was rubbish the evo was a special model fq300 against a standard wxr instead of a STI

20 years of difference in design, engineering and in the use of materials for car construction or the entire platform in general and only one second difference ... This makes the EVO 7 an extremely extraordinary car, in addition, its engine is not chaotic 3 cylinders as in GR, which, although it is modern, is unlikely to be as reliable as a 4-cylinder in-line with a larger capacity. Mitsubishi far way better.

Ohh the Evo 7/8 - absolute magic and 10X the car most of the current market offers with a few exceptions. Thank god for the likes the Yaris, GR86 etc or in N. Amercia at least it would be a wasteland of slushbox iphones on wheels
Size wise you guys don'y you think the Corolla GR was a better match up? Likely would have changed the outcome, perhaps Toyota would have waived its finger at you guys ;)
