I think one part of lolita fashion that's so great is how everyone is so encouraging of buying secondhand. There are a lot of people (not in lolita) that are squicked by secondhand clothes (though that might be changing a bit), while secondhand clothing is a wonderful resource, both for the planet and for people's wallets. And I feel like buying things secondhand is a large part of lolita culture, which is wonderful and also makes things more accessible.

you look stunning!!! this coord is absolutely fantastic. i like that you validate peoples ideologies and actually acknowledge that the behavior exists. I often see more experienced community members completely deny this behavior takes place and try to shut new people with problems up without acknowledging there ARE issues. I do also think more experienced people should LISTEN when people coming in say its unwelcoming or they don't feel welcome. just because your / others experiences were good doesn't mean everyone's will be and i think that needs to be acknowledged and examined within lolita spaces. changes towards the positive no matter how small are always good imo.
on a more positive topic hows the quality of that bonnet? ive been eyeing it for ages but have hesitated to buy when its popped up.

I think a lot of the reason why people feel our community is not welcoming is because there is sometimes a lack of patience when it comes to newbie questions. It's totally understandable for some people to find these things to be frustrating, but its why I like the whole ignoring strategy when it comes to these things. Also, the classist label I think usually comes from younger people entering the fashion and being told their amazon dresses aren't what they think they are (overpriced replicas of poor quality). Of course it is a stretch to call our community classist because of that; however it makes sense for them to be using such extreme terms due to their age and understanding especially basing it off of the way they have to view it in their perspective. And I am NOT saying that this is right or I agree to that at all. But, I think a lot of people who feel this way about our community are new and often younger and just starting out. Many of them probably only bought things offline through amazon and most likely through things like giftcards (assuming they don't have a debt/credit card). I know when I started I didn't have credit/debit cards to use to shop online, and my family was not used to the idea of online shopping yet (they are older and it was 2013). This is why I think it is good to instead suggest things differently to people asking about more budget friendly options. I think suggesting cheaper brands is all good; however I think suggesting maybe wholesale dresses that are easily bought off aliexpress would be way easier and just as fulfilling and familiar to them. Or, showing Amazon stores like loligals so that if they can only use giftcards they can purchase it that way. This is just what I think and have expereinced the best responses out of people who are in need of that info. I think for some people just figuring out LM can be challenging! This is why I suggest what I mentioned. Interesting video topic! I love hearing people's point of views on topics within our community !

Thank you for addressing this, I think it is important for people to know that not everyone in the community are like this.

I am glad that you had a good experience. Years back I wanted to get into the fashion but I have seen a very toxic side to the fashion and backed away fast. It is not as bad as it used to be (I have seen some pretty scary lolitas), but there are still some comments said by the more known lolitas that makes me worried. You even made me worried by saying that you do not need to buy brand, then suggested only buying brand names, just smaller brand names. Not once in this rant did you say it was ok to make your own. I want to make my own dresses (maybe even design my own print).

I understand that you want to give constructive criticism but unless it is asked for then it is not taken as constructive but as rude. To paraphrase a rant I just watched: people spent a lot of time, money, effort and pride into making their outfit, unless they asked for it do not give advice to improve it, just let them enjoy the glow they are experiencing.

Lolita fashion has so many varieties and it was not created to be so restrictive and confined by rules like it currently is. It is also frustrating that a lot of the rules that lolitas in the west follow was made by mistranslations. Even worse is when one lolita says something is not lolita and then another lolita proudly wears the taboo piece. I would love to see an interview with the original creators and hear what they honestly think of the fashion these days.
