I quit playing this game just a few months ago because i literally had nothing else to do. Once a person fully completes a game it gets boring. I will return only to finish the expansion then it's going back in the dark.

Still apprehensive about installing BDO because of that XingCode anti-cheat.

PSA: This game is VERY agresive on the monetization, it’s made to inconvenience you at everything and then sell you the solution. Also it’s extremely grindy, like prepare to have a second job grindy.

I tried playing this game again last year during the Drakania update but rng hated me so much that the season finished before I could fully upgrade my catch-up gear. I became very limited in the places I could explore afterwards because of my scuffed gearscore. The lack of decent rewards for continuing the Valencia main story quests didn't help motivate me either and I eventually stopped playing.

man I can't wait to get proper internet again so I can jump back into BDO. It's seriously sounding better and better as this year drags on

I love how the major pitfalls of this game are ignored or simply kept on the hush hush. PREDATORY MONETISATION and the WORST possible gearing system ever created in any MMO RPG. You will farm 1000 of our hours and be rewarded with ZERO REWARD because you will keep failing your upgrades. Now that is the REAL game experience.

BDO does not have expansions, they're just small updates compared to full scale expansions released by more playable MMOs out there. Don't tell me it's free to play, i know how much money they earn through P2W elements.

I tried logging into BDO for the first time in a few years. I ended up so overloaded/overwhelmed with new content that I was so overloaded with I ended up having a panic attack and had to stop playing lol

Great review, great showcasing. Only thing I would disagree with is the part where you mention the PvE isn't quite on other MMO's level. BDO isn't dungeon/instanced based, it isn't that type of game. Its a grinder game, but they are slowly exploring the boss content, while maintaining the grindy core too.

BDO is a convoluted mess for new players. It will take you hours of meta-gaming to look up info on what you need to do to play this game.
I played it when it came out and maxed a character. It was very accessible then. Now, you need to dig through game-mechanics piled up on more game-mechanics.
So, if you want to spend hours of your life dissecting this game before you can truly get into it, have at it.

I saw the recent hype due to the new season. I bought the game on Steam and installed; created a seasonal character and jumped in.

Stuck in a "tutorial" story with unskippable cutscenes with no idea what the hell is going on. Finally got into the actual "world" and was overwhelmed with free items and a labyrinthine UI. Overly verbose story quests and extremely boring introductory experience.

I did not have fun. There might be a good game beyond this new player experience, but I decided that my free time is too precious to wade through the garbage at the hopes of reaching something good. Maybe.

Crown? I doubt it. Even with good updates it won't really get away from the fact you don't really get any cool loot. You just buy it in a cash shop.

Don't play this BDO! The (gear) progression is randomized after a point. To upgrade gear there is a % of success, and it gets lower the higher "level" you get. Go play GW2, the core game is free and massive.

Been playing BDO for over 7 years. It's not really a PvE overhaul, it just adds a few new things to do in the sandbox. Love that so many new people are giving the game a shot again, but to be quite honest the game has been in this amazing state for years.

Am I the only one who hates the graphics in this game? Even with it set to maximum, the edges of everything look horribly jagged, and that blurred distance is horrible. Overall it just looks..... I can't explain it... Just aesthetically unpleasant.
