I adored Metroid Dread my 1st playthru, the Emmi were a neat idea that definitely put a feeling of dread into the experience, but every time I replay it I like it less and less, the Emmi are kinda cheap, and what I mean is that even if you know what you're doing they will still give you multiple game over screens even if you have a mastery of the game play, they pop up just as I'm getting pumped to explore making me use the same tactics over and over, hopefully they were a 1 and done kind of idea because in my worthless opinion they hurt multiple playthrus and when it comes to Metroid getting better over coming sequence breaks and playing multiple times is something I love to do Dread just doesn't lend itself to that very well due singlehandedly to the Emmi they aren't a system to overcome or master its just luck 😅

I’ve been a retro gamer practically ever since I was a kid, I started collecting retro games and playing them more often around 2016 or 2018! The console I am currently collecting/playing games for is the Nintendo 64! These were certainly fun times before the pandemic and DK Oldies came, so then the prices skyrocketed like crazy!

The majority of Older games sorta suck because they don't know how to elevate difficulty. For example, the first level can be straightforward and simplistic, then the 4th stage can be unbearably hard and too complex, and to add insult to injury, save states don't exist.

This video gives me hope that I'll one day get my singleplayer Penny focused Fortnite spin-off game either from Epic themselves or from my own hands/dev house. 👍🏿👍🏿

Pocket Penguin DX and 2021: Moon Escape look pretty cool. They are on the Gameboy as well as Switch.

I like how “Green Hill Zone Theme” was playing for the duration of the video, almost like it was playing on the TV while you showcased the Switch.

After hearing some good things about it, I was seriously pleasantly surprised with Kaze and the Wild Masks. Outstanding 2d platformer. And I know its on several other consoles and several years old but Yooka Laylee and the Impossible Liar is an incredible platforming game! Both are top notch platformers.

What kind of controller do you recommend for the Switch?

I wouldn't really say Pocky & Rocky Reshrined is a remake or anything of the SNES game, but a completely new game in the series. Sure, the mechanics are very similar (but far from identital), but sequels are usually like that as well. A few stages are very similar to each other, which might trick some people into thinking it's a remake, but there are many more completely new ones, not to mention 3 brand new characters that play totally differently (as well as Pocky and Rocky having more differences compared to the original), and the story being completely new as well.
Anyway, both games are amazing.

Link into the past was given a sequel on the 3ds it’s the best top down Zelda ever called link into worlds essentially your “super charged” link into the past

Celeste was pretty fantastic! If it were an actual old game, it'd be one of the most expensive games today, the game was highly satisfying!!

The gunvolt series. I especially loved the 3rd and Xi. If you like megaman X/zero and intecreates, you'll be at home

Have you tried the Langrisser 1 & 2 for the Switch. 1 was called Warsong here in the states for the Genesis but 2 was never released outside of Japan.

Wild Guns Reloaded is absolutely fantastic. It's got two new characters with interesting play styles, new gun options, better explosive effects, and new set of secret stages. Natsume's updated re-releases on Switch can't be missed.

I have been on a huge retro binge but honestly, I still haven't come around to the sonic games. I played them so much as a kid that nowadays I just can't pkay them anymore XD. Also, I find that Super Mario games have a bit more of an exploring element and better level design for my tastes and I tend to prefer that nowadays instead of an action platformer. Love Rocket Knight though and that game is as linear as it comes but the added mobility of the rocket pack together with the "3d" elements of some of the puzzles makes it somewhat more interesting though that final boss makes no sense and feels like playing a different game altogether. Not the night in space but that TV pig box thingy. Anyway, I had completely forgotten that game existed despite having played it to death when I was a kid. Finishing it now was a nostalgia kick. Thank you retro gaming consoles.

Blaster Master Zero is a really good revival of Blaster Master

Shmups have had a wonderful renaissance on the Switch too. M2 Triggers Aleste added a new game and some wonderful ports of some classics. This is just one "must play" shooter, there are many more.

Shantae is another option, although the games are pretty easy.

please do a part 2 and 3 and 4 if required. switch is truly a dream console for retro gamers.

I bought all 5 of these games day one. I love me some indies. Sonic Mania is the best 2D Sonic I've played EVER. Metroid Dread was an overall great experience, EXCEPT for E.M.M.I. Cuphead was simply mind blowing. Reminded me of another boss rush game called Alien Soldier. SOR 4 was just as amazing as SOR 2. Lastly, Pocky and Rocky Re-shrined took forever to come out on physical, but it was worth the wait. My top 3 favorite Switch game. There's a reason I look forward to indies way more than I do AAA games. Amazing list of games.

Wrestling Empire is the No Mercy sequel we never got and a gift for those of us who enjoy that N64 era of wrestling titles. It's easily my favourite wrestling game ever and has the depth in career mode rarely ever seen in any sports/simulation game.

The Messenger is another great metroid-like that I played on the switch. And for similar retro ninja vibes but with difficulty cranked way up, Cyber Shadow is great too.

So many good ones. I don’t know if guacamelee would be considered a “new” old school game but I love that one! Also The Messenger was really good. Oh and Owlboy. Definitely one of the most creative ones.
