My brother in Christ did you watch the show the swords are made to be lightweight, flexible, and durable and that curve thing that only happens when you DROP it not when you SWING it plus katanas aren’t that durable

Also a giant box cutter blade wouldn't be practical in real life.

I think they use the propulsion and inertia to full weight-slash the titan's necks. For that reason I suppose having a blade relying on your wrist strenght is a bad idea. Depending on the impact force you would probably break your wrist I guess.
A mantis blade resting on your arm (basically a reverse grip blade but without grip, it is attached somehow to your arm or shoulder) or a two handed sword would probably be better imo

One is for cartoons so it doesn’t really matter 🤷‍♂️

You use the the odm gear's momentum to slice the titan
It's just your job to keep it straight and hold that position while cutting the titan

The blade is meant for high velocity precision strikes to the neck, not necessarily close combat.

Remember that katanas are cool but also the most useless weapon ever in real life even in their time. A long sword wins every time, just doesn’t look as cool.

The edge-alignment thing is just straight-up false. If you drop it like that, sure, but when actually swinging the sword like a sword is meant to be used? The person using the sword still has to know how to properly swing the sword. It doesn't magically center the blade on what you're cutting.

My understanding was that they make it this way due to how brittle their hardened steel is. The sections where the blade has those lines along it are so the sword can break apart at the seas and leave you the rest of the blade.

Several times in the series we see people use the bottom section of a blade that has already broken. It would probably be very difficult to achieve the same thing if they made a katana that brittle.

Another subtle advantage is if you accidentally hit your target with the side of the blade instead of the edge The blade will break off instead of forcing all that impact into your arm at high velocity. For example, if you were hitting the female Titan when she hardened your plates will break instead of your arms taking all that force.

It would also allow you to recycle the metal easier after a battle!
