Pixel 4 vs Pixel 3 Astrophotography Mode Comparison! [Part 2]

Googled Hobbled the 3s time via software its not a hardware limitation. It can be hacked to ad more time.
Google is not an honest company and need to give people more reasons to get a new phone.

I managed to take a picture of Messier 31 using a Google Pixel 3a but I mounted it on a camera tripod.I enhanced the light intake a bit using a clip on 32mm 3x Black Eye lense but it still captured it without the Black Eye lense.I'd mount it for best results.Amazing really considering the lense must only be 1.5mm across.

This guy talks about astrophotography mod without taking shots of start... And then he comparing two images without starts and talking about quality of astrophotography mode on two phones... I mean yeah some start are seen there... But that's not enough to compare or to make a dicision. He should make photos out of city... So we can see which device works better. Which has less noise, more details, which captures more light of galaxy gas and so on.

Set the pixel 4 timer to the same length as the pixel 3 and then say what one has the better details.. The longer any lense is open the more detail it captures.. so yes this was a very biased review.. no way the pixel 4 is worth the extra cash over the pixel 3..

I'm a pixel 3 owner and noticed that night photos will be processed best when the entire scene has a consistent lighting. for example if you lit up an tiny LED in a semi-dark room, it'll mess up with the end result, but if you take it out, pixel will spend maybe a second or more to capture more light, but result is much better.


Now similarly, I guess a slight tilt down comparing to pixel 4 here is causing a similar performance issue. It would have been nice if the scene had a better control

It's likely not due to the hardware, they just want to give you a reason to upgrade to the Pixel 4. When they released Night Sight for older Pixel phones, they also didn't calibrate the machine learning white balance for older Pixel phones. The unreleased app seems to combine 15 4s exposures, whereas the Pixel 4 combines 15 16s exposures. Whenever the circle progresses a bit, another exposure is captured, Google explained that some time ago. The exif exposure time should be 4s. The difference in image quality might be a bit smaller, if Google would combine four 15s instead of 15 4s exposures.

Hey Max, there is a Magisk mod on XDA by cstark to remove the shutter speed limiter on the pixel 2 and 3/3a. With that, you can get the same 4 minute astro photo as on the pixel 4 :)

Hi! Great Video, i downlaoded and activated the apk. This may be a stupid question but how do i activate the astro-mode and how do i know that the apk actually updated the stock pixel 3XL Cam? Can i undo this "Update" also? Thank you!!!

Mr Max!! cstark modded Camera PX (based on gcam 7.2) allows for the use of Astrophotography mode on all pixels! just tried it earlier on my 3xl, takes 4 minutes also

Hey Max. I was reading an article on Android Central today about how you can use the "Open Camera" app in the Play Store to record 4K60FPS video on the Pixel 4. You should see if its legit or not.

My old LG G6 (and I think that any LG beyond V20 and G5) obliterates these Samsungs, Pixels, Iphones, Xiaumi, and maybe Huawei with the PRO Mode (aka Manual, lol) on its original camera options =)
