This is why I started my own digital collection using my own dvds and blurays with Plex. Most of these services never have what you want to watch when you want to watch it

this video is very validating for me because i still buy DVDs/blurays 😅 only of my favorite movies but it rules because i actually own it and can watch it whenever as opposed to relying on a streaming service. i hate streaming because we don't actually OWN what we pay for, we essentially just pay a fee to rent shit for as long as the streaming service wants to offer it.

I'm still buying dvds. Netflix, Peacock were choppy... frustrating.

Dvds let my kids watch movies on long road trips with no Internet, and i save money getting dvd players and not bluray, they dont care

I collect DVDs because I like physical media and thrift stores will sell you Blade for a dollar.

Bluray's and 4k Bluray's yes. 1995 technology 480p resolution DVD....hard pass.

DVDs have superior picture and sound quality and no need for an internet connection.

No need to pay a high ticket price for a remake when you can get the original on DVD. You also get hours of entertainment from well written shows that will not produced today because of being problematic or not diverse enough.

Who’s buying DVD over Blu-ray or 4k Blu-ray if they’re buying physical media. Blu-ray is pretty cheap and still looks great. No reason to buy dvd ever again. Great for its time. Waste of time now.

Blu-rays are where it’s at not much of a dvd guy

DVDs are good and all, but Blu-Rays (And especially 4Ks) are million times better! Why? They tend to have better picture and sound quality! Plus last longer because they are scratch resistant.

Classic Ghostbusters on 4K with HDR and Dolby Atmos makes the movie felt like it was filmed yesterday! And don't get me started on animation and anime on both Blu-Ray and 4K! Every Pixar movie is beautiful in 4K! Teen Titans is feels like a whole new show on Blu-Ray due to smoother lines and sharper image plus it's true widescreen (Before cropping into 4:3 for broadcasting and earlier home video releases) across the whole series! Just watched Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero on 4K and it feels like it was meant to be seen in 4K.

If I were you, I would upgrade my titles to at least Blu-Ray to see the Blu difference. Also 4K if you have the funds to get a good TV and a good player like the Series X or PS5 or a dedicated one. Plus Blu-Rays tend to upscale more cleaner on 4K TVs than DVDs. If that Blu-Ray title lacks or never gonna get a 4K release then that's okay because it will still look nicer. Been buying only Blu-Rays and 4Ks unless it's a movie or show that are DVD only. I 100% recommend Blu-Rays and 4Ks no questions asked!

Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiii HATE digital game downloads and digital-only downloads, especially because I'm a Nintendo superfan and know that eventually the console I'm playing on will get phased out in order to run the new console (meaning all digital things will be trapped forever in the dying shop service). I buy 90% of my games physical, and I only have digital-downloads of games that are EXCLUSIVE and INTERESTING ENOUGH TO ME to even warrant a digital download...
If it has a physical copy I vastly prefer it physical.

my guess on who mostly still buys dvds would be truck drivers, people who are on the road alot, people staying in hotels or certain types of rentals, people who cant get good wifi or internet service, people who dont want it or cant afford cable and streaming services, people who work on ships and are out to sea for long periods of time and collectors.

DVDs are 50 cents at my local pawn shops, and free at the library! I don't have a computer right now, and when my phone broke and I couldn't afford an immediate replacement, I relied on and treasured my DVD collection.
I used to love listening to commentaries and seeing the bonus features. Not really everything is available online 100% of the time.
But if I had a computer, I'd just be downloading torrents, tbh.

Okay, cool. But... why DVDs? It's 480i and in some cases 480p. Why not bluray? I was waiting for the big reveal why people are buying DVDs instead of the obvious choice for physical media in 2023. I get the premise in general. I just bought some hard drives when I would have to subscribe to yet another streaming service and Amazon Prime took away movies I bought. So I get the idea that you are tired of streaming services but like... I wouldn't even watch this video in 480p and it's just a person talking and literally footage from a DVD...

Hey Gabi Belle I was just wondering if you knew when Family Guy Seasons 18 19 20 21 and beyond will ever see the light of day of physical media as in when will they be released on DVD and why haven’t they been releasing new Family Guy DVDs since 2019 or 2020 not only that but also you should have mentioned VHS and Blu Ray in this video too not just DVDs but also those types of things and other physical media formats in general as well

In a world where everything retro is trendy, I think the only thing that can save home media is bringing back VHS tapes and VCRs. Yes, tape. Kids would buy that stuff, much like how vinyl and cassettes are big today.

PS. DVDs aren't unpopular just because of streaming services. They just look really bad on modern plasma/LCD TVs. They look great on older CRT TVs. In the late 2000s, I was in my teens, a lot of my friends just illegally downloaded movies. My generation decided to pirate movies and it has really left a scar, no one my age at the time rented or bought movies, resulting in Video store chains going out of business.

I'd rather buy blu rays instead of streaming. To me blu rays look better and there is no telling if wifi goes out because of some reason. At least you can still pop in a blu ray and still be able to watch it. Eventually streaming and WiFi is going to go up in price.

I buy blu-rays, but honestly. Going to swap meets, flea markets, thrift stores, and you'll find dozens of used dvds! Dirty cheap too! You can buy Blade, National Treasure, Fred Clause, and more for a dollar. The most I've payed for an old dvd in a Goodwill was like 5 bucks. Like it's insane how fast you could build a dvd collection today because they are just being tossed out by people that no longer want them.
