Can it or any SFF GPU do video transcoding in a HP Microserver Gen8 without needing to disable the onboard video or iLO?

What would be an interesting test would be a comparison of the RTX 4000 Ada SFF (70W) vs the RTX 4000 Ada (130W), because they both have the same chip and memory, but the wattage is different.

Good to know SFF cards are still made. The last half-height single slot card I was aware of was the gtx 750 ti.

Is it not possible to underclock and undervolt tge 3070 to try to achieve similar results? 20% difference is a big difference still.

That's a lot of money just for being able to use a tiny case. A downclocked/volted 4070 would shred that while consuming nearly the same power.

I will live to hate that this card exists at that price point as considering there's barely any SFF cards out there with "current" gen specs the best one can do is get a 1660 SFF and then an A2000 which is... guess what a giant leap in price with marginal improvement in performance

Rumors of a PCIE power only 3050 was announced so thats some prospects but that goes toe to toe with the A2000 as both cards are now theoretical the same perf outside of their VRAM

Too bad it won't fit in the HP Z2 Mini G9 since that computer uses proprietary PCIe bracket design...I suppose you could just run the card without a bracket if you wanted to.

Most low bracket SFF have old cuda versions that don't work for transcending. The 64, 128, 192 bit makes them useless for gaming

H264_amf(AMD) just uses directx negating AMD accel library stuff

They are near useless and still hundreds of dollars

As I've done, it's not impossible (or at least didn't use to be) to find a used A2000 for around 250$. At that price, it can just barely be justified for the lulz. I cannot see this RXT 4000 ada selling used for anything under 750$ any time soon. This is indeed a delectably desirable piece of tech for those of us who obsess over small, efficient builds. It's just that the price is insane, especially when you factor in how a lot of this hobby is value-oriented. Imagine buying a 200$ used office desktop with a 10th gen i5, only to spend more on the graphics card than it would've cost to build a system with a 5800x3d and a used rx 6800.

instead of price to performance, we should do "price to performance to power" / normalize for all 3, since you're generally paying for better efficiency as you pay for a better card

I just want an ITX / low length/single fan RTX 4070 with 16GB VRAM. Or something like the 1080Ti mini for the 4070Ti (Super/16GB VRAM).

it's ~200W just like the numerous ITX 1080/2070(S)/3060Ti, all ~1 "Liter" in size, so ~200 "Watt per Liter"

We should be getting better/more efficient/smaller cooler designs over time, not larger

What's so so sad is that individual people are modding their 4070/Tis to ~1 Liter. so so sad how companies with 100s of (paid) ppl don't want to / cannot make a product that already kinda used to exist 6-7 years ago but 1 unpaid passionate person can

I should add here that technically there is already a "<=175W 4080/4070", the Laptop 4090/4080 lol (this GPU/4000 SFF is basically a laptop 4070/80 at 70W or so)

Which in turn is kind of sad because there used to be a 200W 2080 desktop/laptop that didn't need this awful segmentation/naming/power limiting/scamming

More efficient GPUs to just run them at idiotic power levels and larger coolers at idiotic prices with idiotic memory setups with idiotic naming schemes/segmentation lol

AMD dGPUs are seemingly non existent in laptops, which is kinda funny because there's little reason to buy a non AMD CPU laptop other than supply/them existing (Intel = bad battery / bad iGPU until MTL, it's fine in larger laptops I guess). RDNA3 is significantly less efficient than RTX4xxx/Ada Lovelace anyways

with the absurd size of gpus now i wouldnt mind some general package shrinkage all around. i dont like computer cases that can dwarf a kegerator when stuff like this is possible. cards in the mid to upper mid tier are what i want to see in an sff form factor because thats usually the point at which sff is most optimal. more powerful cards in a smaller package, not necessarily in half high size, would bring the size of a no compromise build down a couple liters. sff is also more approchable when you dont have such tight space requirements brought on by unnecessarily oversize hardware.

I'm looking forward to when these are 2 or 3 generations old and going for ~1/3 of the price so I can slap 4+ of them in a homelab for gobs of VRAM to load LLMs. Bit too pricey right now but it's hard to not be impressed with such power at 70w.

Seems if every one Grades a card on how well it can play a Game. I like to see these reviews include. People that use security camera software like Blue Iris ect, AI, Deep stack and so much more. I'm hunting for a GPU or a few of them to off load decoding ect to for things like 4k IP Security cameras for software like Blue Iris. and GPU's for AI. All I ever see on forms is use Sub streams, and quick sync. But once you add AI witch works better local. but uses up at least half or more of system resources. I want to build a new system, and I want to be able to through as much as it as I can with out it ever breaking a sweat.

Great stuff as always Geoff (Jeff?). Re: the 4000, just amazing power in such a small package! But the one thing I was totally blown away by was the A2000's RT performance in Spiderman Remastered. Sure the 0.1% lows are pretty poor but I would not have thought it would be averaging 78fps
