Mutiny against the captain under lawful justification, but then just after the mutiny, the rebellious crew takes matter into their own hands and contact the Americans for help. However the executive officer, who is now captain, did not give that order to radio the Americans for help because he was occupied with the fire in the torpedo room. Therefore.........

"You were right about one thing Komrade." -- "What's that?" -- "The mutiny was short." LOL

I like how the fleet admiral's HQ is at the "cultural center."

if i was the executive officer i would've gotten the crew off and then scuttled the sub. yeah they may have been seen as traitors for that kind of move, but it's better than being cooked alive in nuclear submarine with a leaking reactor

Dear Editor,
I would like to ask Actor Harrison Ford to compare the actions of Theodore Roosevelt's Captain Brett Crozier to that of nuclear Submarine Commander of K 19 ,Nikolai Zateyev. Knowing that Ford hates Trump I think I know what he might say.Acting Navy Secretary Thomas Modly was totally correct as to his assessment of Crozier and those crew members that applauded for the man who got the ship contaminated! It's surreal! For Crozier to say that we are not at war is an insult to those pilots who put their lives on the line every time they land at night on a pitching carrier deck.

Legendary crew, good movie, one of the worst movie plots ever that full of the cliches. Scriptwriters were in the kind of zero fucks given mood.

In the real lie K19 incident, there never was any mutiny or attempted mutiny.  However, the Captain was extremely concerned there would be one.  So concerted he ordered all the small arms on the ship thrown overboard except for a few pistols which he kept among himself and his most trusted officers.  I guess Hollywood decided taking precautions against a mutiny wouldn't be as entertaining as an actual mutiny.

The way the director of this cinematic work, Kathryn Bigelow, captures the utter chaos in the malfunctioning nuclear submarine is so gritty and arresting that K-19:the widowmaker is up there with Das Boot and Crimson Tide.

In Reality, K-19 after suffering the Nuclear Reactor Meltdown actually contacted Soviet Diesel Subs operating near Finland and had the crew evacuated.

The faux- Russian accents of the stars aside, this was a damned good film.

First time i saw this movie, i knew in my gut he wasn't going to go along with this even before he asked for their weapons. Up to this point he may have been challenging the captain at nearly every decision, but everytime the captain stood firmor explained himself, he would not pursue it further. Becauae he understood as XO he had to respect the chain of command, he could voice his objections and argue them to the point of insubordination, in fact it was his duty to do so, but once your commanding officer has made their final decision, it your duty to carry the order out to the extent of your ability.

Sure he wished he could be making the decisions and with the mutiny he could, but that was not how he wanted to get his command back. He and the captain, despite their butting heads, did have an understanding of one another and he felt he had. It acted in a manner that warranted his removal.
