😂 I was hooked by the title and entertained by the video. 👍 Larian brought me back to crpgs with DOS2, but now I prefer the „real ones“ like POE.

And then Obsidian made Tyranny which is for me the best CRPG before BG3.
It's weird that it didn't get as many attention as Pillar of eternity.
I didn't find the world and the plot of Pillar very interresting. And If I am not mistaken, a short while after InXile made Torment which was depicting the same kind of plot than Pillar.
I did prefer Torment to be franc and I hope someone will do another Numenera game!

And I hope Obsidian would like to develop more the Tyranny world, I really think they got something very interesting there.

Pillars really didnt click for me. I found it very verbose and tedious, with a lot of uninteresting text-walls, forgettable characters and a vague, unispired, generic plot. Itemization nontheless is pretty awful and flat. I think that Bg3 is vastly superior in every aspect.

In a weird way pillars of eternity is the spiritual baldurs gate 3 and bg 3 is divinity 3. That being said i noticed worms in your head making you able to use psychic powers a cool nod to the watcher parts in pillars. To all those who wanted more "baldurs gate". Pillars is your game

pillars is more enjoyable if you are into more direct"ish" gameplay and is visually more beautiful in my opinion (pillars are actually the most beautiful crpgs ever created I think),

WHILE, BG3 of divinity games are more ambitious gamrplay wise. but if you seek the qualities above, Larian never managed to make the games feel epic IMO because every time you venture in a new map you sink many many hours leveling up around the map resolving here and there different quests. in BG3 they made progress regarding this but still it feels too busy living some king of pace issue. thid is why instead of playing the game Im going bacl to pld schools crpgs because they feel more straight foreward and epic by the same occasion. still BG3 is a great achievement but for me people are praising too much for my tatse while the game havent yet pass the test of time while some others did, BG2, planescape for exemple

I just liked to imagine what Jsawyer was thinking when he witnessed all the hypes and loves for BG3, which is probably the biggest difference compare to PoE.

Absolutely loved pillars of eternity 1 and 2 I havnt played bg3 yet but I will when it comes out for Xbox. The only thing I think I won’t like is that there isn’t real time with pause I’m not a big turn base fan

Great video. Had trouble years ago getting into Pillars and DoS because i thought they were slow. As ive matured as a gamer I've realized the uniqueness of the CRPG genre. ARPGs are often shallow and repetitive which becomes boring. Every fight is situationally or environmentally different in CRPGs. It can be numbers or enemy type, elemental barriers or enemies set up in tactically more advantageous positions. Ive played BG3 for close to 200 hours and its never been boring.

I prefer Pillars, there’s a lot less degenerate shit than BG3 (No bear sex, no horny af companions, no 5e ruleset etc etc) bg3 isn’t a bad game though, it’s very overhyped

PoE and Deadfire are easly one of the best RPGs ever made. BG3 was fantastic but it's not even the best BG game. (BG2 is just a masterpiece)

DnD rule dragged down BG3 combat system , it caused confusion on ppl unfamiliar with DnD system which was designed for pen paper game , directed to older players

I'd rather play a text based game than curse my eyes with those graphics, they actively detract from the experience for me.

BG3 however is gorgeous.

Turn based only in BG3 is a massive turn off.

I think the writing/ narrative depth in bg3 is much worse than in pillars of eternity, and much much worse than baldurs gate 2. To me bg3 is written like a marvel movie as opposed to a fantasy novel. Also feel it’s missing the atmosphere. And don’t love any of the companions.

I initially thought bg3 was a masterpiece, but having come down from the initial high I’ve realized the writing for me really holds it back and prevents me from wanting to replay, and the combat is fun, but not deep enough to offset that.
it’s just given me a kick to replay the original trilogy and pillars as opposed to replaying BG3. It’s a great game, the interactivity / exploration mechanics are second to none, and I’m glad it’s successful. But it frankly doesn’t come close to capturing the magic of baldurs gate imo, and pillars comes much closer

So im new to CRPGs. In the last few months ive tried Pillars 2, Pathfinder Kingmaker and WOR, Encased, Wasteland 3, Underrail, Atom and a few others. Just couldn't really ReALly get into them. Right when BG3 was set to drop, I was about to try DOS2. Figured I'd skip it and try the BG3 early access. I was super hard. Im not sure what happen but I kept playing it. Now ive uninstalled other games off my pc and actually removed some games from my steam account. I love this game now. Its like reading a book, watching a movie and playing chess all in one. Im stuck.

goods points on your vids .
for me BG3 may open a new path for c-rpg like as Total warhammer for rts genre . its not to talk if this one is better than but to tell player and other devs , on each genre game there's steel room for improvement and new way go out of the player fan base of genre .
c-rpg dont need to be "restricted" by codes/rules to get sell .

As a lover of Both games. I spent 80 hours playing Pillar of Eternity, as early access player of BG3 i spent 200 hours playing early access. Now i have over 300 hours BG3 and am still on act 2 , level 6 , BG3 is certinly my game of year and cant wait to see what modders bring to BG3 , this game breath of fresh air.

Before BG3 I would've said PoE1-2 were the best crpgs to date. DOS2 would be right behind those. PoE for me feels like much more of a story driven serious and epic adventure, whereas BG3 is a mix of serious and whacky but overall just more fun with the freedom of being able to do anything. The story for BG3 so far has taken a back seat to the gameplay, not sure how to explain it.

When you play a game that overhyped so massively you expect something that stands it out compared to the other games. BG3 indeed differs, but in what aspects? It has a cutscene for literally every interaction with NPC, like you just click on a mouse and it starts a cutscene. It has detailed highly interactive world like it was in Deus Ex, you can use environment widely to kill enemies and achieve places. It looks cool, but that's not what you usually want to see in RPG, that's not its core mechanic. And when you start a conversation with an NPC, you usually see the same set of sentences you might have seen in all the others RPG like PoE1/2. You still don't feel any intelligence nither in your interlocutor nor in your own character. So eventually it's just a good game that they made a hard work on when voicing characters and building cutscenes, but that's definitely not what I like in RP games.

PS. And cutscene on every click is annoying af

Pathfinder by Owlcat is a more close comparison in my opinion if we are talking about BG3 in particular. I honestly think BG3 is really good, but I don't really dig how Larian does paceing and location design feels limiting in terms of immersion, I don't really feel like I travel the world and it is big and vast even if that is only an illusion. Larian treats locations like puzzles to solve and I honestly hate that which made me drop both divinity games midway through. BG3 fixed some major issues I had with Divinity games so I am somewhat confident that I will see it through and this time around I actually enjoy playing it, the 5e implementation is actually fantastic, it is complex, but more friendly and less cumbersome than Pathfinder, but in all honesty I liked Pathfinder WotR way more (though I am still in act 2 in bg3 so maybe it will change) it felt more like a grand adventure.

I had to stop my Pillars of Eternity 1, Path of the Damned playthough to hard swap to BG 3, because of the early release. Really love both, but I accept that 6-man parties and Real Time with Pause combat is prob not gonna transfer well to console / modern gaming.

The Pathfinder series is far better than BG3 in nearly every way. BG3 isn't a bad game, but it is severely lacking depth and the characters you can make are extremely limited. BG3 is more of a reskinned Divinity game than it is an actual Baldur's Gate game.

Very interesting video, but to me, it completely obscures the fact that Larian has been producing CRPGs since the early 00s. They are not a new entrant, even compared to the Obsidians or Biowares of this world. The Divinity series began in 2002 and has had a steady output since.
They are definitely not jumping on a fad opened by others, only perfecting the recipe. They are as much heirs to Black Isle as the others.

BG3 by far for me, from combat, story, exploration, side content, characters, gameplay mechanics, choices/consequences, dungeon design and reactivity makes BG3 a work of art that is hard to surpass, the fact that it’s standing against the likes of TOTK and Starfield is not something that any Crpg did in a very long time, i still loved POE but I preferred tyranny over it when it comes to the obsidian Crpgs.

Disappointed by PoE, sequel was better (tho smaller) I dont even consider BG3 as being a Baldurs Gate game. Should've called it something else. Disrespectful to the clearly superior BG II.
