Calvan 389-4000 Leak Tester Check for Closed Valves Quickly

One way to verify that the valves are closed for a particular cylinder is to remove the valve cover to check the cam lobe position. The CAL389-4000 can be used to save time on many engines. If there is a well and the spark plug is recessed, the plunger part of the leak detector kit can be pushed into that recess. Then shop air hooked to the other end, the valve is turned on. With air entering the cylinder and turning the engine over with a starter switch or by hand with a socket and a ratchet (on the crank bolt). Once the valves are closed the plunger end of the valve will pop out indicating that the valves are closed.
