I think the rhythmn of "song 2" is the same that "when I come around" but chords are changed.
ОтветитьAll I know is that the song is phenomenal! This explanation was so cool! Electronic music done right takes a lot of thought. Song 2 is Bottled Lightening!
ОтветитьCringe thumbnail.
Ответитьwow… just… wow.
ОтветитьThe reason why the inverted power chord sound lower is because its waveform has a longer “loop”.
Fundamentally, for a sound to have a pitch, it must (more or less) loop over a set amount of time. That’s the very definition of frequency, how we measure pitch: loops per second, or “Hertz”. This loop gets more noticeable when you apply distortion to the waveform.
Different instruments have a different ratio of what are called “harmonics”, or pure soundwaves that loop an integer number of times within one loop of the “fundamental”, the pure soundwave with the base, longest loop.
Basically, the normal power chord is (or actually approximates, due to a compromise called equal temperament) a 2:3:4 frequency ratio, so it sounds like the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th harmonics of a note 1 octave lower than the actual root of the chord.
The inverted power chord has a 3:4:6 ratio, so it sounds like the 3rd, 4th, and 6th harmonics of a note 1 octave and a perfect fifth lower than the actual lowest note.
That little "sorry couldn't help" impro at the end is pure sugar 🤤
ОтветитьWahoo!!!! Nice telecaster.
ОтветитьBro , i dont even play guitar . Why i watched the whole thing
ОтветитьYou should revisit Blur and play Bang…ufff that’s how you begin to appreciate Graham’s amazing talent
ОтветитьAbsolutely clever and reveling, thank you
ОтветитьLearnt new things, thanks Paul.
ОтветитьI played it by beating the hell out of my coffee table
ОтветитьDo not apologise.
ОтветитьFigured this out quite recently and it changed everything ... I'm glad to see ppl noticing it !
Ответитьwait whats the inversion
ОтветитьYou are brilliant
ОтветитьAmazing video once again.
ОтветитьSweet analysis! Love it, Paul!
ОтветитьSo? I yell in fake Japanese while I poop
ОтветитьYou know, I get it, most guitarists think they're the only instrument in the band, or at least the only instrument anyone cares about, so I guess I shouldn't blame you for not mentioning, and probably not noticing, that most of the thickness of that chorus riff comes from the heavily distorted bass. And I'm a drummer. So believe me. I pains me to give the bass player his due.
ОтветитьFrom Blur to Pink Floyd and back again. It's all good. Very good actually 🤟🤟
Ответитьand the wind cryes mary.... ring any bell? 😂
ОтветитьThe bass guitar is doing all the heavy lifting. That’s what really is making everything sound crazy
ОтветитьWho are you again?
ОтветитьThat's how Johnny Ramona plays all power chords since the very beginning. He always make the 6th string scream, no matter which power chord he plays.
ОтветитьGraham Coxon has made so many off-the-wall unconventional, awesome riffs/solos/progressions. Awesome player and writer.
ОтветитьIt's what a lot of bands did around that time before Korn and such got big.
Listen to HIM - awesome! Sounds always fat - Tuned to B or B by inversion.
Great video, if I was a guitar player I’d appreciate it even more.! Loved your playing.
Ответитьthese pedal tones techniques are great. It's also applied in Foals- What Went Down. It makes for such a great effect and its very easy to apply.
Ответитьnice to actually learn why this song sounds RICH, guitarist here
Ответитьvery mch a riff (or rip off) of "when the bullet hits the bone" by golden earring who were genius
ОтветитьSounds like David Gilmour at the end there. Weird juxtaposition.
ОтветитьONE OF THE MY FAVORITE RIFS / SONGS OF THE LAST 20 YEARS
ОтветитьPinegrove does this “inversion” technique a lot when playing the 5th as a grittier base note for their chords.
ОтветитьThis was so fun to watch. Thank you!
Ответитьdo the bass line next, the chorus part is awesome
ОтветитьI'm learning this song, and it is insane how hard is this rhythm hehe
ОтветитьFirst song I ever learned at my guitar lessons back in 1998 after rocking the fifa game. Then when I come around- pine island music, those guys will never know what they did for me after just a year of lessons. I switched from bass to guitar and have been at it ever since.
ОтветитьMan song 2 brings me back to fifa 98 on the PlayStation .. couldn’t wait for this song to play!!
ОтветитьThis is an excellent interpretation and gets everything right. I was a tone-deaf, teenaged strummer back in the day, and I just hammered out the barre chords: A - G - C - D - E as hard as I could. It was okay, but Blur it wasn't.
Ответитьsong: genius. your rendition: brilliant
Ответить"actually brilliant"
was anyone saying it wasn't
Your slow version is good.
ОтветитьYou have no soul when you play. Analysis is quite OK though.
ОтветитьThat little solo he played was amazing lol. It fit perfectly and changed the whole mood of the song.
ОтветитьThat solo over the slowed version was phenomenal
