Would this block up if used for a planer/thicknesser with 100mm ports?

Alright here's the low down.

Yes it's good for what it is. It's designed to be connected to a shop vac. However you should be aware of the limitations that shop vacs have when it comes to dust extraction. In the end for me personally I will make a mess and then clean up afterwards, rather than trying to connect a shop vac up to dedicated power tools, like a saw or thicknesser. Sure it can work for handheld power tools.

But back to the bucket. Yes it does actually capture almost all the dust and since I installed mine, my actual shop vac bag seems to be completely empty, so that there is evidence that it's capturing well roughly everything. So from a product functional point of view it does work as intended, it's a really good "cyclone".

But there are some things that you should be aware of :

1. It's an extremely good idea to build some kind of cart so that the shop vac and this bucket can feel more like one unit. Unfortunately there's no product that you can buy like this, so it's a DIY project, then again you're a woodworker so it could be kind of fun. I recommend also investing in some decent castors when you pull this cart around.

2. As I already said, do not expect to connect this up to dedicated machines with a shop vac and get any kind of reasonable dust extraction. This has nothing to do with the bucket, and everything to do with how shop vacs work vs dedicated dust extractors. But if you're ok making a mess and then cleaning up afterwards, like I do, then this solution really works very well.

3. After a while you will need to buy spares, the dust filter in the lid is going to be the first thing to go.

Has to be the worst dust extraction bin this side of the River Aire. Top is push on pull off, its a swine to get to stay on, slightest nudge and off it plops,(which is what it is), shite!

Looks good, tired of having 6 inches of sawdust on the floor behind my mitre saw station. This with a home made saw hood to keep the overspray from falling being the table will work great.

Any issue if the filter is reversed so chips don't stick to the ribbed side?
