Great and horrifying movie. Sad thing is, i believe this is happening IRL and these things are done by very wealthy and sick people
that are either highly connected within governments or a part of governments or high official standings and secret societys.

The only thing i have never ever understood about the plot is why does anthony heald's character (the lawyer) insist on having nicolas cage's character investigate further in finding the girl when he knows she's already dead , and even provide him with unlimited funds when it was he who was involved in setting up commissioning the film to be made with dino velvet. Later on in the movie the lawyer marvels that the PI got as far as he did in uncovering the whole crime but my question is "why even send him to investigate at all?". That just never made sense and i first saw this film when it came out. One of my favorite films of all time

The nature of evil is all really simple. People do bad things because they can, they enjoy it, and they can get away with it.

For the Old rich dude, he had the money, and he did not have to use his own hands to do the filthy work
For the Lawyer, he was compensated. He had no reason to complain
For the sleazy talent scout and director, the girl was just some runaway nobody would miss and would look for
For the guy in the mask, he simply enjoyed doing what he did and no one would suspect a thing.

This is such an underrated psych thriller

A movie that needs to be watched multiple times to be truly appreciated. First time around watching you are shocked by the raw and shock nature of this film. Once you get past that you see a brilliant performance by Nicholas Cage and appreciate that this is a brilliant thriller

This film teeters a fine line between being so good you have to watch it again and so dark you really have to be in the right head space to watch it.

Think about this…this was pre internet, all on tape. This whole movie is about a roll of film. Now, there are entire WEBSITES online dedicated to stuff like this and much worse, being distributed completely anonymously and digitally, without money changing hands able to be traced directly.

One of my favoeite 90s 'dark' thriller/mysteries. Stir of Echoes is equally as jarring and just as beautifully done. Bacon at his finest.

In the film Cage's wife (played by another brilliant actor, actress Catherine Keener (i.e.: 40 Year Old Virgin, Into The Wild---to name some of her other films) is pregnant and they (Cage & Keener) have a baby daughter. I'm not a mother yet, nevertheless, I cannot imagine being in a position of witnessing such atrocities....and this type of thing is happening even more in the present day. The moment when the girl is hit by the sicko, Cage's immediate reaction is something I think most of us would have the same response....wanting to beat the ___ out of the leather dude. And the further the film goes (the ab*s*), the more Cage is sickened to the core. Accurate on point brilliant acting. The older lady who played the widow of the rich monster did a great job acting as well. A very great film made a quarter of a century ago.....hard to watch/listen to, but pragmatic and a must see.

You know whats the scariest part of the movie ??.
It is not just a fantasy movie
It really happens in real life. And the worse part is?.

There is no one will help or can help those victims and future victims. Because the perpetrators are rich and powerful.
Big example are pddy and epstein.

People are really bound to do something very evil.
Just imagine those people who enjoys the torment of others
