How to Set Up the Shure SM7b for Beginners (FAQ Series)

I watched the video , I just bought the sm7b and I have the focus rite 2i2.
I did not quite understand, the software I need to install on my MacBook Pro.
I use Audacity to do my radio show. How should I connect the focus rite into the PC?

Seriously thinking about getting this mic. Cheers for the help. Quite expensive, but why not.

I'm not sure if it's just me, but the paint on my SM7B particularly the part at the back is all scratched up. I bought it from the authorised resellers so it's definitely authentic. Does this happen to all SM7B or is it just me?

A beginner doesn't spend money on shitty focusrites and stupid Shure. A beginner goes with a newman mic with a Beringer card. PSA: you don't need to spend all your savings just to sound good on discord with your 3 other virgin friends ready to bother a woman in valorant's voice chat

The USA made cloud lifter is awesome. As a pro audio salesman I sell one with every interface when using the SM7B.

Step 1: buy mic and audio interface.
Step 2: ...eh?
Step 3: buy mic preamp.

Can you just plug the mic into your computer or do you have to buy thw scarless thing

I know I'm a year late on this one but I just bought the sm7b and I'd love to get a similar sound signature to the Lex Fridman podcast, I just love the low/warm/high presence in their voices, not even for podcast purposes, I just really like the way it sounds, my sm7b and yours sound way brighter in comparison (even when really close to the mic) and I'd love to tweak that

Can this mic work without a cloud filter ?

Hi looking for help… I have an SM7B into a UA Volt 276 into Mac and it just will not work into GarageBand…? Am I missing something here? I’ve switched to another mic which immediately works, back to SM7B and nothing. I’ve tried putting a Cloudlifter between SM7B and Volt… still nothing. I have tested the microphone into a desk at a studio and it worked fine. I’ve switched phantom power on. Yes the Volt is selected within GarageBand and selected for the correct channel. Lost.

My mic feel like something is a bit loose inside if I tilt it from side to side. Is that normal? Feels like the capsule or something is loose.

So weird I just bought both items from the thumb nail.

Cuz I got a simple way of knowing.
I'm not sure if you figured that out or not, but It's vary simple.

You should also do a video on how to actually record audio and what software to use. Would've loved to have that at the end of this video. Great content though.

Yeah, I've just got my Shure today and switch to it from my Aston microphone but Audacity barely picks my voice up.

Why is it recommended to get a gain booster?

Lol, my plosives cut straight through that fat foam screen + a dual popfilter (fabric and metal mesh) like nothing... Still need a plugin to tame them. That is however when doing vocals, ad isn't as bad while just talking.
