I've been editing videos in Davinci Resolve for about two years now and I really like it.
Like you, I decided pretty early on that I didn't need to use the Cut Page at all.
Yes, the Pages takes a short time to get used to (especially switching to the color page to take a still), but once I got used to it, I'm actually a fair bit faster on Resolve than on Premier Pro.

This is super helpful and quite great timing - my school Adobe subscription expires next week unfortunately!

I'm planning on switching from Premiere to resolve with my next video and this tutorial was absolutely perfect. I usually manually sync my audio in premiere and now I'm wondering if it had an auto sync option this whole time. Either way, I'll definitely be using resolve's auto sync. Thanks again for the great tutorial.

You can also zoom the timeline via ctrl+scroll wheel.

I love that content creators are making more DaVinci Resolve content, but I just can't stand to watch tutorials for modern technology when the video is overly retrofied. I'm really glad you didn't retrofy the actual screen recordings of DaVinci; that would have been unbearable.

is it worth paying for the full version? i like a lot of the extra tools, but its also complicated to even figure out how much it costs.

I just switched to Windows two weeks ago, because i got frustrated with my Intel Arc A750 not being used to its full capacity and thought it was time to downscale my Jellyfin server for a while. It feels dirty using Windows, but i can't ignore the conveniences it provides at the moment. Anyway, all this to say that I've been thinking a lot about DaVinci Resolve lately and thought it was finally time to learn later this week. It's a hell of a coincidence that you uploaded this. Thanks, Professor!

If you finish your project and you forgot to change the fps before you started you can just create a new timeline in the media pool and drag and drop your timeline content into the new timeline. You don't have to restart the whole project.

... i did not know about the nearest neighbor resizing option. THANK YOU FOR ENLIGHTENING ME. I was always puzzled by certain transforms causing blurriness or color artifacting.

You were the driving force behind me finally breaking away from the clutches of Adobe and into the warm, comforting embrace of Blackmagic Design. (Please, please don't age poorly.)
After I made the switch and got back up to speed, I could never look at Premiere Pro the same way. I've been completely Adobe-free for coming up on a year soon and I couldn't be happier. The fact that DaVinci Resolve can adequately replace Premiere Pro, After Effects AND Audition is just... unbeatable right now.

This was a great tutorial with great vibes throughout and I hope that it gets in front of as many people as possible. DaVinci Resolve is changing the industry for the better, and we would ALL be better off if Blackmagic Design can put Adobe on the back foot. Content like this only helps that along.

Thank you.

I had a weird issue with resolve. For some reason, the project management screen, and changing between different pages in the app for the first time in a session, were always super slow. Once I had been using it for a while it would be fun, but the first time I go to, for example, the cut page, it's like 20 seconds waiting for it to change.

I never figured out the cause of it, but adding resolve as a non-steam game and then launching it through steam seems to fix it. On the off chance anybody else has this issue, try this.

I've actually used Resolve for 1 year and did not like it (especially coming from 8 years of Vegas Pro, which is fast and smooth to edit).

Resolve got a long way to go since I find it really bad for regular highly edited videos. it is more suited for short projects or specific tasks like Color.
I found soooooo many things that take one click in Vegas but here it's multiple clicks for the simplest things. Sometimes I have to find workarounds since Resolve is hellbent on not cooperating.

The fact that I can't make folders for my FX, alone, is a deal breaker. So much clutter that I can't remove. So many things existing in other tabs that you have to scavenge for.
Resolve piss me off.

(I enjoyed your tutorial. You always have nice videos.)

You convinced me about 6 months ago to give DaVinci Resolve a go. I edited a video, and it took a bit longer than usual, but not like twice as long though, just a bit longer. Mostly because timeline performance actually PERFORMED. I was nearly as fast in Resovle after 3 videos, including the time it would take to look up tutorials, because Resolve crashes less often, and actually freaking works well. Being able to import some settings helps a little too, but honestly, there's not much reason most of us couldn't switch over if most of what we do is trim clips and stick them together with some transitions. Thanks for giving me the push to take the plunge!

I've been using Resolve for a couple of years now, but I didn't know you could do the in and out thing, that should save me quite a lot of time!

Awesome video, I am going to save this and send it to people who ask about it. 😊❤

I came from Premiere and I just want to say that Resolve's cut page is absolutely fantastic, especially when combined with the speed editor. You can knock out a rough cut of even a complex project so fast, then jump into the edit page to work out the fine details. It's definitely a different workflow, but I love it.

Also, great tutorial!
