This doesnt make sense though, because I eprsonally know lofi beatmakers that use easily recognizable samples from 70s 80s and 90s records who release through tunecore and get paid on spotify without any issues..

I’m sorry that you had to go through this with spice. I was looking to find out more about how to use splice and if it was worth it and Brother with all the time that you put into making your music now you’re not able to use it because of, they do have stuff copywritten and it would not be cleared. That really sucks big time. I think splice should reimburse you your money plus more money for the time that they have taken away from you and your family. Bless you upon your journeys and thank you so much for this you are helping a lot of people like myself. I will tell anybody else not to deal with spice and do not pay and give them your money, just so you could listen to a song that only you can be happy with the world cannot enjoy keep making hip-hop, big guy and if you need some sounds man I have thousands of them bro hooks singing everything and it’s all stuff that we have put together as producers ourselves from our own projects i’m not trying to sell you anything I’m just telling you somebody else has your back and if you need help I’m one of the guys you can reach out to I got your back bless you and your family. Happy 2024 brother and keep on doing the thing you love, which is being a creator.🫡🙏🏽

I see videos like this all the time driving up fear. Nothing against OP/Channel. Melodies yes you will get copyright strike, its a MELODY! It IS the song! Drum samples that originally came from drum machines can't really be used for copyright strikes. So one shots are extremely safe but If you get a drum loop and are not at least chopping it up, changing the tempo/pitch, then that could get copyright striked by another artist who happened to upload their track first before you

Edit - Also The reply from splice said you fill out one form for EACH SONG not sample. You then make a huge argument about how stressful and time consuming it is to do this for each sample, when their reply said each SONG or VIDEO. I am no longer a splice fan because of their anti consumer practices but the copyright strike for reusing melodies is definitely going to get a strike but one shots and slicing up drum loops (with no melodies just percussion) is very safe.

The problem with Splice Is that they dnt show the amount of people that download a sample park

So even if you release music for free on Soundcloud is this a problem? or is this only when money is involved such as distrokid, spotify, applemusic etc?

Maybe if you actually MADE music instead of copy-pasting other people's music together, you wouldn't have this problem to begin with.

People are not supposed to copyright claim splice sounds, but they do all the time. This is the dark side of splice that nobody talks about. If you try to distribute your music through any distributor. Even if you have a license. They tell you you cannot distribute music unless all the samples or sounds are completely original. They make you check a box stating that all the sounds are original and nothing is from license or royalty free sample packs. It blows my mind that no one ever talks about this.

there have been cases of big artists using splice samples and they definitely monetize their stuff, so why shouldnt you be able to release that thru tune core? makes no sense

I fortunately haven't ran into this issue yet. I make most of my own sounds, but I do enjoy modulating splice samples for some tracks, maybe it's because I edit them so much? Even then, it's a very strange grey area that Splice presents.

What in the world is Splice? And drag and drop fest of premade grooves and such? Smh, no wonder. This isn't a real way to produce music anyway. it's just a mix and match session and musical leggo blocks.

So Splice sell you samples to use in your productions and then does not let you release the music you made with them? That's the biggest-sounding scam I've ever heard of. Artists can mix and mangle samples and use samples in a smart way, on the other hand, if they drag and drop, that will kill their reputation if two artists use the same loop, but they should still be able to do that since that's what sample packs are technically for.

Okay, so what they are literally saying is that you can't use piano for music because Mozart did. It's nonsensical.
You don't have the copyright to the instruments, you have a copyright to your performance.
Though, I'm not a lawyer or anything, but as a software developer I have had to learn a fair bit of copyright law.

A CC0/PD/copy-left license on a sample gives you the full right to do whatever you want with that sample. The only thing you don't have, is exclusive access to the base sample. Putting it into a song is literally altering it and allows you to copyright your song, as performed by you.

You can copyright a sample you recorded/produced, if you chose to sell it as a royalty free non-exclusive sample then anyone that got a license from you has the rights you afford them. In this case Splice gives you the right to publish a song made with it, so you do have the rights required to publish your copyrighted song.
