I absolutely love it when you have a collective of friends who get involved in a project together. The energy is amazing.
Also, the fact that the electricity is not up to code is no surprise. I used to watch the previous owners. They did a semi good job but I don’t think they cared enough to do it all properly. They just wanted to concentrate on the aesthetics. It’s about money as well so I think that may have affected their decisions because they spent a fair bit of money on the grand salon when the structure was the most important. I unsubscribed from them some way in because I could see that their decisions were confusing and so upsetting that the building wasn’t being cared for properly.

It blows my mind the amount of money these chateau eat up. Don’t get me wrong, I love that there are folks like y’all who are willing to take this challenge on. I follow several chateau channels, including Carol and Adrian when they were at La Ferte. I can see why they sold. So much work! 😱 Good luck in all of your work ahead of you. ❤️😊

Dan Preston on Escape to Rural France did his own rendering of the outside walls. The burial thing explains the burial tunnels under Quebec City in Cda.

From the previous owners, they dealt with wood worm issues structurally, no kitchen in the traditional sense. So don’t criticize, their efforts. It was a long and dragged out process for them. Yes Adrian did a wonderful job as Carole.

I hate to say it but Adriene and Carol while worked very hard am sure must have been overwhelmed. And now next owners left with the hardest and most expensive part of restoring this chateau.

Thank goodness someone is finally prioritising the restoration of the basic structure of the chateau rather than guilding the pretty bits inside. Get the main structure sorted first , then you can do the fancy decorative features on the inside.

💕If you remove the Tommy tiles & soil/clay & everything else they use to put under them it would take they weight off the beams in your cellar💕Those shutters are beautifully unique also the Lead paint & Rust is very easy to remove just leave to the summer months to do them outside💕

I only watched maybe every fifth video of the former owners. While I love gold and gilding it was too much attention to detail and too much gold for my taste. And I thought much of the building was renovated. But most of it seems in a very very poor condition. When indents and mushrooms eat the beams alway there is no use to attach new beams to a rotting structure - understandable even for a simple graphic designer with architectural interests. Looking very much forward to new insights and also to artistic inspiration.

Your approach is truly an intelligent and refreshing approach - very well done. It is a real surprise and shock that the previous owners spent hundreds of hours with trivial considerations on paint colours/shades/technics whilst the floors beneath their feet were literally rotting away. I stopped watching their channel after a while it all got far too tacky.

I have an old rectory and have similar humidity issues in my basement. I've found Ecor pro systems to work in keeping dampness at bay. They have, over 6 months, dried the walls and some of the floors.

I’m sorry your comment sections are filled with people who take offence on the behalf of the previous owners. They had their time in the chateau, used that time as they wanted, done the work they wanted to and SOLD the building on. They obviously recognised the amount of work needed was far more than they were able to take on, hence they have moved on.

Their loyal viewers also need to move on mentally.

Sadly the building is in bad repair, it needs structural work before anything else can happen. That’s the reality of an old building, papering over the cracks only works for so long. Bon chance, in your adventure 😊I look forward to seeing this beautiful building shine again.

Maybe they should have saved on the gold and invested in the rotten bones

THANK YOU. I said several times on Adrian and Carole’s videos that what they called the original kitchen was not accurate; the age of the house dictated the kitchen would have been in the basement. I also knew that had to be the case because of the odd doorway between the ‘original’ upstairs kitchen and the dining room with the wide framing, it had to have been the dumb waiter from the basement. ALL houses like this from this period had them. Adrian never showed that little fireplace. I know the rest of the basement had to have been other rooms used by the domestic staff as well.
