AH, Vonnegut: I was introduced to him in high school where budding intellectuals pointlessly and quite futily attempted to dissect his work ("Slaughterhouse Five"). Vonnegut needs to be read, several times, tobe appreciated. Peace.
ОтветитьCome, delve into the world of Kurt Vonnegut,
Mia Nacamulli extols, with reasons to strut,
In Vonnegut's tales, a blend of wit and woe,
Why should you read him? Let the reasons grow.
From "Slaughterhouse-Five" to "Cat's Cradle" so bright,
In Vonnegut's world, humor takes flight,
A mix of sci-fi, satire, and more,
A journey through tales you can't ignore.
His anti-war stance in "Slaughterhouse-Five,"
Time's jumble and life's tragic dive,
A reflection of war's stark, brutal scream,
In Vonnegut's words, reality's seam.
"Cat's Cradle," a tale of ice-nine's twist,
A cautionary tale in a world amiss,
In its subtle humor, a biting critique,
Of humanity's follies, its flaws so sleek.
His characters flawed, with hearts that ache,
In their absurdity, Vonnegut's cake,
From Kilgore Trout to Billy Pilgrim's plight,
In each character, a complex light.
A master of humor in a world so grim,
Vonnegut's tales, a laughter's hymn,
A blend of satire and philosophical strains,
In his narrative dance, wisdom sustains.
So, why read Vonnegut, Mia relays?
For his wit, his wisdom in dazzling arrays,
To laugh, to ponder, to question the norm,
In Vonnegut's world, a literary storm.
In Vonnegut's tales, a blend so rare,
A mirror to life, to its joys and despair,
Mia Nacamulli's ode, a reader's cue,
To explore Vonnegut's world, an enriching view.
So it goes.
ОтветитьI read Slaughter House Five when I was 14...the first real book I ever read. I went on the read all of Vonnegut, Ray Bradbury, Arthur C Clarke , Isaac Asimov & many others. Now when people ask me why I am so freaking smart & imaginative I simply say "Slaughter House Five"
ОтветитьMr Nobody and Enter the Void are films that I think take this concept and do it even better. I love slaughterhouse 5 but I've came down on it in recent years unfortunately.
Ответитьthis actually helps me to understand japanese storytelling in e.g. "spirited away"
chihiros adventure does not follow the rules of western dramaturgy.

ОтветитьSo Nolan really took heavy inspiration from him
ОтветитьI always mutter 'busy, busy, busy' whenever I encounter a coincidence, been doing it for more than 50 years.
ОтветитьI’ve known of Vonnegut for a long time but only recently started reading his novels, and it’s proven to be a new source of joy for me. ❤
ОтветитьThe cat's cradle was an incredible touch
ОтветитьNo, the most interesting is the "Jeremy Berimey".
ОтветитьHe's the second greatest sci-fi fiction writer of all time after Isaac Asimov.
I give isaac the nod because he thought BIGGER!!!!!
Though, if we are just scoring for readability and prose, vonnegut is the greatest american writer. 😊
This is SUUUCH a good Vonnegut summary wow. Sending this to people from now on instead of trying to find the right words to explain how much I love him😂
ОтветитьI want to watch this but I feel like it will spoil the stories, I won’t want to read it if it told to me what happens 😅 (came here after reading cats cradle)
ОтветитьI loved the scene where Winston Niles Rumford said, "It's Harrison Bergering time!" and Harrison Bergeroned all over everyone.

ОтветитьI refreshed a lot of brain cells watching this. Thanks for posting it - wow
ОтветитьI like how the art style is very similar to the style of art seen on the covers of his books. Nice job TED-ED
ОтветитьKurt Vonnegut's absurdism is a simpler and more comfortable understanding of the world than is reality. But there is hope for us all.
ОтветитьI love Vonnegut! Have all of his books in my home library, have read them multiple times. My favorite is The Sirens of Titan, and, Galápagos.
ОтветитьVonnegut's work is hilarious, deep, heartbreaking, hopeful, pragmatic, beautiful, poignant, deep, goofy, and poetic all in the same book. Kurt was a beautiful human being, and I'm thankful I was alive at the same time as him!
ОтветитьThe Beat movement and the books that came from that time period completely changed my life... Highly Recommend "On The Road"
ОтветитьGalapagos is so far my favourite book of his
ОтветитьI wonder if Kurt Vonnegut had access to the akashic records
ОтветитьI read Cats Cradle in High School, I found it in a bookstore. It changed my young life.
ОтветитьSlaughterhouse five is one of my favorite books
ОтветитьI think the best reason to devour Vonnegut is you're pretty much a shallow, humorless illiterate if you don't.
ОтветитьHARRISON BERGERON GANG
ОтветитьSlapstick is an underrated Vonnegut book for anyone who is an enjoyer of his works.
Ответитьinterstella
ОтветитьPlease do The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn next
ОтветитьI dunno man.
ОтветитьHappy 100th birthday Kurt Vonnegut!
ОтветитьVictory is just a matter of organization. If there are such things as angels, let's hope they are as orgsnized as the mafia.
ОтветитьGod created time so that all things won't happen all at once.
Ответить
favorite words it happens
ОтветитьThe Sirens of Titan is currently my favorite book of all time. I've also read and enjoyed Slaughterhouse Five. This guy was an incredible author.
ОтветитьHe may be the reincarnation of Mark Twain.
Ответить“If that isn’t nice I don’t know what is” nice vonegut quote reference, one of my favorites.
ОтветитьHis aliens are just like gods, Vonnegut offers intellectualised religion for atheists, well done preacher Vonnegut.
ОтветитьVonneguts view on storytelling is actually one of the key differences, if not THE key difference, between genre fiction and literary fiction!
Literary fiction doesn't tell you whether something good or bad has happened. Stuff just happened, and the stuff that happens is all kinds of a mix of good and bad.
Genre fiction is plot driven, and works on a level where the audience NEEDS to know whether what has happened is good or bad.
I guess this is why Kurt Vonneguts stuff is considered literature, not science fiction. The literature label is still something other classic sci fi authors like the Big Three of Heinlan, Asimov, and Clarke haven't achieved (which George RR Martin has complained about), and is absolutely why stuff like Harry Potter, Stephen King, Star Wars, and Marvel movies are looked down upon by some/a lot of people.
And so it goes…
ОтветитьWhy should you read Kurt Vonnegut
You shouldn't
This is a less interesting version of Vonnegut's lecture.
