The absolute best part: Mei is originally Chinese, not Japanese (not that even that should preclude anyone who likes from using it). It only takes a quick google search (or some knowledge of the cultures) to know that. But hey, we can't expect someone claiming to fight racism and ignorance to not be racist and/or ignorant
ОтветитьMy actual name has "Kai" in it, am I appropriating Japanese name too? 😂😂😂
Ответитьchronically online losers js don't pay them no mind
ОтветитьThis is prob a hot take but Japanese names are the best names in the world.
ОтветитьI'm white, but I almost always use Japanese or Korean names for all of my RPG characters. Why? Because they honestly have very cool names.
Ответитьidk man as an Indonesian id think theyd name their kids whatever, i mean i think i've once saw on an Indonesian meme someone got his liscense and shared that his name on the license is Satria Baja Hitam that translates to Black Armored Warrior that's his name
ОтветитьNo cuz why they trying to gatekeep names that are so plain and simple as that one was?! It was never racist to begin with until the person tried to project racism into it 💀🤚
ОтветитьMei itself also can be a common word used in female Chinese names. Mei 梅 means plum and given that there is a huge Chinese Indonesia population that could actually just be an abbreviation of her actual name.
It's like being named Smith in the U.S and someone screams at you for culturally appropriating European culture.
no way he pronounced Mei as Mai. I mean its a single syllable and you still got it wrong
Ответитьonly twiiter have these braindead people istg
ОтветитьAbsolutely DELUSIONAL with these guys being so hypocritical they make politicians look like the kids that doesn't accept that they're wrong
Ответитьthese morons do more harm to discourse than the actually problematic people they wish to fight so badly
ОтветитьOne thing to say as a peson who is Japanese, grew up in japan, and still lives in Japan....... WTF is wrong with people. Its funny that I got more offended that people are saying "Stop appropriating Japanese names!". I am happy to see people like our culture.
ОтветитьWhy do they do this? Quite annoying actually..
Ответитьsometimes i wish i have popcorn while browsing twitter

It's funny af that white people are trying to defend asian culture and saying it's a minority or something when Asians are literally more than half of the world's population, they just didn't care to realize that
Ответитьthis racism frfr no cap putting the name Mei with japanese
ОтветитьPlease… tell me this a parody
Ответитьnames are names : /
ОтветитьI find it hilarious when people say "minorities on the internet". Like bruh, you realise the internet encompasses practically the entire world? There are no minorities.
ОтветитьThe funny thing is that afaik, this is not a white thing, not even a western thing. This is very specifically an american thing, regardless of race.
In Europe cultural appropriation is... not really a thing anyone ever considered, before it arrived with american media, and it is still a very weird concept. We don't own our culture lol, if someone imitates something from our culture, isn't that something to be happy about? As long as it's not a mockery.
dutch guy told me i'm culturally appropriating sweden
my swedish friend literally encourages me to like swedish things and speak swedish more often
as a 14yo asian girl i forgive you
but by my brother in christ you guys need to stop
It's a Chinese name lmaooo
ОтветитьLOL
ОтветитьI remember someone said I was Asian fishing IM KOREAN 💀
Ответитьthats why i got an european name-
ОтветитьIn hebrew nissan is the jewish month of spring (between march and april usually)
I wonder if israeli people called nissan are also apropriating japanese culture by that logic.
Yawn
ОтветитьThe whole concept of "appropriating culture" ist absurd garbage. If you all did not appropriate for example writing or calculating, you would not even be here. Every jeans you were is as culturally appropriated as the music you listen to, not to talk about just EVERY bit of science and literature and most holidays etc. Just drop that idiotic concept that you should not use things of another culture if you like them.
Even if people do it badly. In my home country people like to buy "native costumes" and wear them and think they look native now, and if those are very tacky or people behave badly in it and they look like a caricature, we shrug and think about them that they are stupid tourists. That's it. Why make a big deal out of it?
its pronounced "may" not "my"
ОтветитьThe Differance between activists and fake activists is activists care about issues and fake one want goodie points
ОтветитьNo cause this happened to me when I used my real name instead of my English name bc I’m half Korean-Chinese & half black right they went off on me telling me to show my parents & shit tf
Ответитьcant even be asian on an online website 💀
Ответитьwhen there is no struggle, humans male it themselves
ОтветитьShould have just replied "ok, Karen". No need to defend yourself over this lol
ОтветитьYAKUZA AND RESIDENT EVIL MENTIONED 🙏🙏🙏
ОтветитьIm a mix of mexican and asian, and man do i hate when people get offended on our behalf, like dude its not that bad, i dont care if someone says i have slit eyes or some shit like cant live without rice or soft tacos
BECAUSE THATS THE FUCKING TRUTH DAMNIT
COULD NEVER GO WITHOUT AN ASADA SOFT TACO WITH SOME DAMN LIME JUICE ON IT
Edit: I completely missed the fucking point i think lol, but either way, now that i do know that its something about stay in your lane in cultural sense, i still dont give a shit about white people or some other races and cultures enjoying our beliefs
thats the fucking point of culture, to be shared ya buffoons
my username is basically how I see myself
Ответитьas a japanese i dont freaking care i just click because it seems funny
Ответить"as a 14 year old girl, i apologize for the behalf of my species"
