If that's not a Crye Precision Ultra Operator Fire Repellant Level IIIA North Face flannel you're a piece of shit. What if you walk into a Starbucks and the baristas burst into flames because of your hot manliness. So not operator.

I've used a both a SERPA style and a Safariland ALS holster.

When using the SERPA, I would always draw so my finger landed on the slide above the trigger guard. It was pretty ingrained and felt natural. However, I would never recommend it for two far worse reasons: First, If you had to hit the dirt ( or sand, or snow) before drawing and any sand, mud, or snow gets behind that button, your release is jammed and drawing is impossible. Second, and this actually happened to me, that little button's pin worked itself out and the button fell off the holster. I had to find it and reattach it before I could get my weapon out. Far too unreliable for an EDC.

Then I bought the Safariland and it was love at first draw! It is the smoothest, most natural draw with great retention! I would highly recommend this to anyone.

All of the retention methods are assuming that the person trying to grab the gun from your holster is in front of you what if they are coming up alongside and behind you and grab the gun from the same angle that you would they'll retentions really don't do anything in this case Even with ALS, SLS and thumb guard

I mean I don't know what kind of drop leg holster you've used that's sitting so far down your leg that you have to cant your body over to the side ?
A standard drop leg sitting at mid thigh for me is directly in line with where my arm is hanging and I can draw faster than a belt holster which is higher up and I'm having to bend my arm in order to remove my hand up to grab the gun. And then proceed to bend even further up to draw making for a very awkward angle on your wrist in comparison to the mid thigh

I was thinking about what you were saying about milliseconds mattering, and when I equated it to the ADS (aim down sight) or sprint out time in call of duty, it started to make sense. When entering a gunfight, like you said, milliseconds matter, especially in CoD. Thanks Mike!

Sometimes, whenever I eat M&Ms, I like to hold two m&m's in between my fingers and squeeze as hard as I can until one m&m cracks. I eat the cracked one, and the one that didn't crack becomes the champion. Then I grab the other m&m, and force it to compete with the champion in this deadly game of m&m gladiators. I do this until I run out of m&m's, and when there is only one m&m left standing, I send a letter to m&m's brand with the champion m&m in it with a note attached that reads: "Please use this m&m for breeding purposes."

I used to use a drop leg holster for hunting because it kept my pistol clear of my pack and winter coats. Over time I found that on long hikes into my hunting spot, it would actually pull my hips out of alignment. Walking out at the end of the day was usually very uncomfortable.

So in the german army serpa holster are standard issue and i can tell you i‘ve almost lost my gun during a field op because a small branch triggered the release mechanism while i was prone thankfully a buddy of mine saw it and took it with him otherwise sarge wouldn’t have been to happy with me🫠
Bottom line is don’t get a serpa holster they suck ass

Serpa is great for hammer fired weapons or any model that does not have a trigger safety.

I've seen setups with TQ and compact IFAKs on a drop leg platform, I think its a good idea because if you're going to drop anything in an emergency it's more likely going to be your BA not your holster so in that situation you'd still be able to make and plug holes 👍

Personally I use a two strap drop leg much higher than you described. I know that when my arm is relaxed down my side then my hand drops straight onto my sidearm and clears any gear I've got.

I find the belt and mid ride holsters more difficult to drive in too.

A note on the ALS type holsters they are very very popular in sandy environments at least in my experience its prefered that I use them by my agancy and I live in a state with sand , its just something to think about that SLS canget jamed up rolling around in sand or small rocks , being said all mechanical devices can fail have a back up weapon

My department uses the safari land 070. After disengaging the thumb break and middle finger break snaps you have to rock the gun backwards. It's probably the most secure retention holster ever.

I tried a SERPA Blackhawk and took it back the next day. Too loose, rode too high.. so no smooth draw, and too much of the gun is exposed. I'm finding that the Safariland ALS with the drop leg adapter is the way to go if you are wearing any kind of gear on your chest. That seems to be the standard and I like the locking plate feature.

I served as a 240 gunner while in the Army. Our secondary was an M9 Beretta & we FOR SURE we issued those “cool guy” thigh rigs which I fucking HATED. It would flop around, pull down your pant on that side & always get in the way. Also, if ever in the prone position & had to roll over and switch to secondary….. GOOD FUCKING LUCK. They sucked smashed wolf dicks. Great video Mike!
